The problem is that we let the Brady Bill sunset.

No, we are never going to get rid of guns, maybe we should not, as I think there are some valid reasons for gun ownership. However, the problem with the last few shootings has been the re-introduction of high capacity magazines. After the Brady Bill passed, 10 round maximum on semi auto guns were the law of the land.

Loughner and now this idiot have used high capacity magazines to their advantage. There is no reason ANYONE needs a 100-round magazine. 10-round clips would have mitigated a fair amount of damage yesterday.

How many more innocent lives will be lost due to high capacity magazines?

The "Brady Bill" instituted mandatory background checks for prospective gun owners, formerly accompanied by waiting periods.

You see, that's why you need "gun nuts" like me to keep you on the straight and narrow path. If you're going to debate, try to have your ducks in a row first. That's why I have a lot of respect when John Woods makes his case, but get a little irate at statements like the one you just made.

The ban on high capacity magazines was only a small part (title XI, subtitle A) of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. and was enacted to be compliant with the Brady Bill. I cannot stand gun nuts. I am a hunter and guys like you make life harder for me because of their insanity for all things GUN. Black Talon Bullets --- hell YEAH! I bet I have killed more big game than you. Ever face down a grizzly charge? Been in the middle of a pack of wolves. Killed a mulie that scored over 200 B&C? How about an elk that scored over 340 P&Y?

I bet not. You guys sit around and have wet dreams about shooting some poor schuck who wants to make $20 by stealing your tv nad pawning it downtown.

Banning high capacity magazines is a matter of public safety. Nobody NEEDS that shit out there in the general public. For the record, I would get rid of pitbulls, lifted trucks, and advocate life time prison terms for repeat drunk drivers.

Why do you need lots of bullets? Can't hit shit can you? 95% of the things I have killed (and eaten) were done in with the first shot. I have a box of .300 Win Mag rounds around that I have had for over ten years. Two moose, four caribou and a black bear were killed from the box of cartridges. I still have 4 rounds left.

Take a closer look at the text.

You want to hunt, fine, go for it. And if high-capacity magazines are such a threat to Mom and apple pie, why are you apparently fine with cops and government agents carrying them on the streets? And what is "high-capacity," anyway? Whatever the Brady Campaign says it is? Come on.

I respect your stand, but please respect my rights and liberties as I respect yours.

Advocates of the expired federal "AW" ban had ten full years to gather information and formulate a case for renewing it or making it permanent. They came up empty-handed in 2004.

14. As a non-hunting gun owner...

I personally don’t give a damn about hunting. I have never hunted, and don’t want to. I’m not opposed to it philosophically, but the attitude of some hunters, as expressed by you, if the thing I really don’t like.

Your statement reads as you’re one of those who think the “real” purpose of gun ownership is hunting. In other words, you are a “Fudd”, as in “Elmer Fudd”.

Fudds are perfectly willing to give up every other type gun, as long as they can keep their precious hunting guns, and keep hunting.

I on the other hand, think the prime purpose of the RKBA is self and home defense.

Let me clue you in on something. If everything but hunting guns were banned, then the PETA Zealots would soon try to get hunting banned, and as soon as hunting was banned, then there would be no “need” for anyone to own a gun, and that would be the end of the RKBA.

If your attitude is no one “needs” to own a handgun or semi-auto, then IMO, no one except the Native People in Alaska, who are subsistence hunters, or the very poor in rural areas, “needs” to hunt.

This guy had a 100 round clip and he shot 71 people. Of course shooting into a crowd doesn't require a whole lot of accuracy.

Would have done nothing to prevent this.

It created a mythical class of weapons out of thin air, and then proceeded to fail at banning them. It was and still is a total joke.

Even under the AWB, mags over 10 rounds were still perfectly legal.

It made no difference. When the AWB went away, nothing changed. If one felt better about it between 1994 and 2004, one was living with a placebo.

Some people are never satisfied - they want more restrictions, more control, and more power over the rest of us. That's one reason why this gun owner gets a little ornery sometimes.
