for a deal, or as an informed tweet by someone earlier said it would take either Don Jr., Jared or the Orange Hairball himself for Flynn and son to get off easy?

Maybe thats why the smear campaign against him.
Getting rid of him makes it a lot easier to push through their agenda of stripping away more of that American Democracy they despise so much.

8. Manafort appears to be sufficiently corrupt all on his own...

to be headed to the federal pen. They appear to have him dead to rights on multi-million dollar tax evasion and money laundering charges. (I'm actually kind of surprised that they didn't indict the wife too, who was party to several of the real estate transaction and who is said to be an attorney, so ignorance of the law wouldn't be an easy defense.)

It's possible that Flynn has information on Manafort's involvement in the Russian plot that helps flesh out the story more/ adds other charges. But Manafort is already in a jackpot without anything related to Trump.
