How Jeff Sessions Plans to End Medical Marijuana Before The Year is Over

How Jeff Sessions Plans to End Medical Marijuana Before The Year is Over
BY MELINA DELKIC ON 11/24/17 AT 7:50 AM

In May, Attorney General Jeff Sessions pushed back against the bill when he sent a strongly worded letter to Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress, asking them to oppose protections for legal weed and allow him to prosecute medical marijuana.

“I believe it would be unwise for Congress to restrict the discretion of the Department to fund particular prosecutions, particularly in the midst of an historic drug epidemic and potentially long-term uptick in violent crime," Sessions wrote in his letter.

Kevin Sabet, president of the nonprofit Smart Approaches to Marijuana, an anti-marijuana legalization group led by former Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), said legal weed was not as harmless as the recent hype has made it out to be. "A lot of people are being peddled this by an industry that wants to make money, like any other industry," he said. "I have a really hard time with the very small handful of studies out. They’re just not something that the scientific community agrees upon."

Some of the most virulent anti people are people that were once addicted to what they are fighting. They can't conceive of a world where everyone don't end up like them. The real world has many striations, but the virulent people can't possibly see that reality.

Many who've had substance abuse issues swear off everything they think that might re-create those issues...hell, they would probably reinstate prohibition. They have an absolute fear or relapsing. But can you blame them?

...they think they are saving you from their own demons.

Not saying its right, but it does help to understand where they are coming from....which is needed to communicate. For example, you could say not everyone who takes a shot of whiskey is an alcoholic, but they probably used that same argument when they were an alcoholic. So you have to say something like, I buy a bottle of expensive scotch and it lasts me at least six months...then they can relate, they probably bought the store brand swill and it was lucky to last a week.

With nearly a century of negative publicity on marijuana, its going to take more than a couple of presidential terms to end the negative stigma.

Didn't like it when Iron Man used it as the excuse in Marvel's "Civil War" movie, don't like it now.

Of course, the government has always prevented or discouraged any studies on the long-term effects of marijuana, so this statement is basically bullshit. He'll just ignore any studies which contradict his ideology: https://www.forbes.com/sites/tomangell/2017/09/14/study-rise-in-marijuana-use-not-caused-by-legalization/#4304cfff51b7

I'm not sure where Sessions' lifelong obsession with banning marijuana comes from. https://www.civilized.life/articles/jeff-sessions-has-a-marijuana-obsession-says-former-ag-eric-holder/ He has said "good people don't smoke marijuana."

I guess he's going to have this film remastered and schools will be forced to show it:

...Colorado, Oregon, etc. state legalization was important, but for the most part, still could have been shut down if push came to shove. However, then the game changer happened, California legalized it. Now a significant portion of the populace lives in legalized marijuana states. And unlike other states, economically, California is a major powerhouse and has significant influence. Jeff Sessions can blither and blather all he wants about reversing the state legalization, but now he has to go toe to toe with a state that essentially has the resources of another country. The lawyers stated, prior to California, there was a chance to win, now, he's already lost.

The retail dispensaries are just... stupefying in the quantity, quality, and variety.

Not to mention all of the social benefits that come with legalization. Fewer black kids in jail, more tax revenues, thousands of jobs in everything from horticulture to retail sales to marketing to solar panel installation. And did I mention how good the weed is?

Plus, if you run out at midnight, you don’t have to buy more from some guy named Larry who hangs out in 7-11 parking lots and keeps his pot under his ball sack.
