As this country is frozen in ideological ice, my guess is nothing will change due to this latest tragedy. But given America's trajectory, if there was some resultant policy, what do you foresee?

(15,189 posts)Cameras on their fire exits, this may have never happened. You would think since using a fire door to sneak in, they might want to do it just for that reason. We learn from these incidents. And having more cameras is coming anyway. It's their property, so they have every right to put cameras just about anywhere.

(18,663 posts)cameras would have been a deterrence. If the shooter wasn't known it might have helped ID.
Alarms of the fire doors might have had more of an effect. Cameras are more likely as the theater can use them to keep people from sneaking in.

(12,482 posts)or just an exit to outside like many theatres have? And you are right about camaras. Most security camaraderie don't have someone watching them. They primarily exist to record evidence.
sarisataka
(18,663 posts)and it probably was the usual side exit with a sign that said fire exit.

(8,142 posts)If it's open at any time other than the end of the movie, security should respond.

(15,558 posts)I mean, responding to an exit alarm may not mean much if the guy coming through the door is armed to the teeth. The responder could simply be the 1st victim.

(8,142 posts)There were a half dozen uniformed police in the movie complex last night. It was being shown on 13 screens shortly after midnight.

(2,916 posts)WASHINGTONAmericans across the nation confirmed today that, unfortunately, due to their extreme familiarity with the type of tragedy that occurred in a Colorado movie theater last night, they sadly know exactly how the events following the horrific shooting of 12 people will unfold.
While admitting they "absolutely hate" the fact they have this knowledge, the nation's 300 million citizens told reporters they can pinpoint down to the hour when the first candlelight vigil will be held, roughly how many people will attend, how many times the county sheriff will address the media in the coming weeks, and when the town-wide memorial service will be held.
Additionally, sources nationwide took no pleasure in confirming that some sort of video recording, written material, or disturbing photographs made by the shooter will be surfacing in about an hour or two.
"I hate to say it, but we as Americans are basically experts at this kind of thing by now, said 45-year-old market analyst Jared Gerson, adding that the number of media images of Aurora, CO citizens crying and looking shocked is pretty much right in line with where it usually is at this point." "The calls not to politicize the tragedy should be starting in an hour, but by 1:30 p.m. tomorrow the issue will have been politicized. Also, I wouldnt be surprised if the shooters high school classmate is interviewed within 45 minutes."
"It's like clockwork," said Gerson, who sighed, shook his head, and walked away.
