Romney - GOP Still Wants To Fire The Firefighters And Police -Yet They See Bad Stuff All The Time.

You can bet the GOP still wants to fire the first responders. We still need smaller government. We don't need any more government employees.

Addendum - First responders deserve their pay, deserve their benefits and most of all deserve their pensions. What we fail to remember is that first responders face risks every day that most American will never see in a lifetime. And they face personal risks most of us would never in our right mind deliberately run to. And they will see things that are the stuff of all our nightmares. We as civilians forget that.

I remember my uncle Joe. He was a firefighter his entire career starting in the 1940's. I was always very angry at him because my dad had to to help him many times when he was drunk out of his mind. How he held the job until retirement I do not know. All I know is that he drank a lot and was a very snaky aggressive drunk.

He was such a strong but kind guy really but was saddled with genetics that made him susceptible to alcohol. He was so strong that when he bowled he shattered the pins at the end of the alley and the pin boys would refuse to reset because they were getting peppered with pin parts and splinters in the next lane. (Comic relief). Anyway I was always mad that he was drunk so much. And my dad rescued him so much.

Now that I am 68 and hopefully wiser when I reflect on my uncle who I quit visiting because on a visit home from Colorado with my wife he was as drunk as a skunk. I realize now that I had misjudged him and I am now sorry I did not understand until long after he was gone. He had quit drinking after he retired.

I now understand why in the light of this tragedy. I also remember story of an incident he had to deal with. We had fast moving Walbash trains come through a main street of our town. One day someone deliberately stepped in front on one. It was on his call and he had to help clean up what little was left. I now wonder how many times he had to see bad things. And I now understand why anyone would drink working such a job.

If you are kind and sensitive like he was, I guess you have to bury a lot of things if you are a first responder. They go through a different kind of combat most of us will never know.

That is why the GOP attack on these people is so evil.
