4-year-old shot in chest, BB permanently lodged in heart

Polk County deputies are investigating an accidental shooting that left a BB lodged in the heart of a 4-year-old boy.

Brandon Boyer was first taken to Tampa General Hospital then moved to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. Hospital officials told investigators the BB will not be removed.

Brandon and his 20-year-old relative Chad Boyer were visiting family in Lakeland when they went to grab the BB gun for target practice.

Deputies say the gun was lying on a bed wrapped in a blanket and when Brandon's 10-year-old cousin grabbed it, the gun went off accidentally and the BB pierced the boy's chest cavity.
