Biden's book?
Hillary's book?
Lawrence O'Donnell's book?
Thanks Obama?
The new photo book of Obama?
I'm reluctant to get them a book on how horrible Trump is as they could retaliate. And I don't want to talk to them about Trump. It would drive me crazy. I want them to see at least one Dem as a human being.
I've read much of Biden's book, he is a very decent man and much of the book is about Beau so it might make them think of him as human. I've not finished Hillary's book or even started O'Donnell's or "thanks Obama".
Is there something better?

(15,412 posts)which doesn't make it about Trump. Problem is, I've not read them and I hate to give a book I've not read.
Have you read either?

(15,412 posts)but with a grain of salt. One year I got my mom a book that was all the rage that year, The World According to Garp. The author was in town so I got her a signed copy for x-mas. when I asked her about it she said the end troubled her. As I'd not finished it I asked "what happened". She told me and I had to admit, the ending was shallow and a cheap trick. Like when the gods come down at the end of a Greek play and just fix it all up. Sort of like you didn't know what to do or where to go with these characters so, just throw in a shocker (bring in the Greek gods we say in my family).
Long story short, I'll buy books based on reviews but I'll never give a book I haven't read myself.

(13,574 posts)We know you do, obvious from the OP. But your family members?
I can't think of a one RWer I have know that reads. I don't mean they're illiterate, I mean they don't read books. Dosen't matter if they are non-fiction things you're looking for or fiction. Any kind of reading over time gives one a more balanced and open view of the world. More exposure to lots of possibilities.
Even the RWers I've know who bought the Limbaugh books or Coulter's never actually read them. They sat on coffee tables for a bit or in the one book shelf in the house. Your attempt to give them something worthwhile isn't going to work. Because THEY DON'T READ. They get their reinforcement of their world view from Fox and AM radio. It's a sad fact, but don't waste your time.

(15,412 posts)He likes history but I think he picks up what he wants. I do think that giving him left leaning books keeps him from being "in my face" about his racist views.
I'm hoping the gift will get the same result from the others. If they don't read the book, they will be afraid to bring up the issue covered because they would have to admit they didn't read it.
I give them a gift anyway. So why not make it something I want them to know.

(15,412 posts)in his book tour he's been saying Dems brought all the right wing hatred on themselves due to deplorables and "cling to their guns" and if they didn't say stuff like that it would be hunky dory.
I want to jump through the TV and kill him!

(15,412 posts)I listen to books to go to sleep at night (insomniac). I woke at 5:30 am to go to the bathroom and put the audio book back on. I went to bed at 1 am so I needed more sleep but it was at the part where Beau dies and I couldn't stop listening.
Biden is quite a good writer. And oh so likable.
