'Don't spew that stuff on me!': Shouting match erupts in Senate over GOP tax plan

A shouting match erupted in the Senate Finance hearing over the Republican tax overhaul, with Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown and Utah Republican Orrin Hatch arguing Thursday night over who benefits from the GOP plan.

At the heart of the argument is new analysis by congressional number crunchers that finds the plan cuts taxes at first but by 2027 actually raises taxes for anyone making less than $75,000.

"When the Republicans are in power, the first thing they want to do is give tax cuts to the rich. That's just what's — it's in their DNA," Brown said.

Brown's attack got under the skin of Hatch.

"I've been here working my whole stinking career for people who don't have a chance. And I really resent anybody saying that I'm just doing this for the rich. Give me a break," Hatch said. "I think you guys overplay that all the time and it gets old. And frankly you ought to quit it."

"Mr. Chairman, the public believes it," Brown said.

It might help Senator Hatch if you guys would quit trying to sell a turd as a piece of chocolate.

I was trying to think about when the two parties worked across the aisle for most of the legislation and when did partisan politics really begin. I know that Boehner and McConnell made it public knowledge that they would block everything Obama did despite 8 years of him trying to compromise. I thought it went back to Clinton and Newt Gingrich but then I decided it goes back further than that. I believe it really began with Reagan. That is when the GOP got greedy, greedy, greedy and they started selling our government to the highest bidder, became morally superior, and allowed unions to be destroyed while deregulating the media paving the way for Fux Ruse.

about his own humble "lower middle-class beginnings" and he has always been for the working class. Bullshit, he lived as a white male in the 1950's when white males that were reasonably presentable and minimally articulate were afforded every opportunity to succeed in our culture. I know this since I am a white male from a lower middle-class family who was able to be employed in good paying jobs with great futures while having little or no qualification, simply because I was a white male and bathed regularly in the epoch. He is a complete phony who is out of touch with the struggles and obstacles that many working class people face today and he will not do anything to make their life brighter. What a bastard, as he used the power of the podium to unleash a diatribe against the values of the Democratic Party, none which he represents in his legislative agenda that only supports the rich and privileged. The nicest way I can put it is fuck him and the horse. go back lily-white Utah, you little asshole.

... I'd love to see Hatch try to point to anything he's legitimately done to anyone who doesn't "have a chance."

Other than poor white trash trying to force their Christianity on people, or promoting tax cuts which yield millions to billionaires and a trip to McDonald's for the low income types, I'm sure he'd draw a blank.

Nobody mentioned and nobody cares how poor you were when you were growing up.

This tax plan takes money from the poor and middle class to lower taxes for the very wealthy - that's a fact. If you were poor once, that doesn't change what this plan is.
