The Pentagon has reportedly approved its first pay for a gender-transition surgery for an active duty-service member, NBC News reported Monday. The infantry soldier identifies as a woman and reportedly got her combat infantry badge in Afghanistan in 2003. The surgery will take place a civilian hospital facility. President Trump signed a memo in August barring new transgender recruits and stopping funding for sex-reassignment surgery, but a federal judge blocked both bans last month.
