Lyndo Jones
A 31-year-old man is in the intensive care unit at a Texas hospital after he was shot by Mesquite Police Department officers in a shooting that his attorneys say was not justified.
Lyndo Jones was wounded when he was shot in the back on November 8 in the 1300 block of South Town East Boulevard, the Mesquite Police Department told KTVT-TV. While police have called Jones a car burglary suspect, his attorneys, Lee Merritt and Justin Moore, said Tuesday that he was shot after accidentally setting of the alarm on his own pickup truck. Jones was not armed, police confirmed Tuesday.
Another unarmed BM (black male) shot by cops, in stable but critical condition, Merritt said on Twitter.
Merritt said on Facebook that Jones was shot twice attempting to shut off his car alarm, and then placed under arrest with no criminal charges, chained to his hospital bed and denied family and attorney visits while being unconstitutionally questioned by department that shot him.
Officer Derick Wiley shot Jones, police said. Wiley has worked for the Mesquite Police Department for 10 years.
Ive not seen any clearer case of constitutional violations, Merritt said. Not only do you have the excessive force where the client was shot, unarmed in his own car, accused of being a burglary suspect and the media misled that this man was shot during a burglary, he was then detained in the hospital, his family was denied access to him, they were not given, as he was fighting for his life, any updates on his medical condition. His doctors said they were not allowed to give updates. And now he is being denied counsel and literally hidden. I couldnt imagine anything be more blatantly violative of the constitution.

(82,849 posts)Here, let's listen to a bunch of uninformed old white men explain what those dumb black guys are really doing. Dang, it's like white guys have to do everything! First we gotta give black people a reason to protest. Then we gotta explain how they're not protesting right: Too violent, too quiet, too this, too that, and quit blocking my car! Then we gotta tell you what those people are really protesting, because they just plain don't know. Then we gotta get all mad about that. Pretty soon, we're back to square one, and black people think they have yet another reason to protest, and we gotta go through it all again.
When are white men gonna catch a break?!

You forgot to tell them to change the name of their movement. You can't call it "Black Lives Matter" because all lives matter!

(10,274 posts)Then why the hell was he arrested?
Oh that's right, so the cops could intimidate the witness.
I thought that criminal charges were sort of a prerequisite to being fucking arrested? Silly me, I guess.
Glad he's not dead. Really glad he's got some lawyers who sound like they're ready and able to sue the bloody hell out of that PD.

(20,730 posts)And then the city runs you around for days just trying to get it back. They lose track of it for days, and when they finally find it, they have the nerve to charge you hundreds of dollars storage.
Seriously? Shooting car burglers???
Ok ok I get it that he wasn't stealing the car. It was his own car. But even if it turned out to be a burglery, why shoot him?

I honestly didn't want that "welcome home" from customs this morning.

(8,291 posts)mostly because I left the country (a couple of times) and lived abroad. I saw their public transportation the envy of this country. I saw the health care that was not for profit. I saw the roads that didn't have pot holes or lanes that were unmarked (in most countries). I saw healthy people that walked a lot. The only time I saw guns was at the airport on the police. Sometimes I saw guns on police in the city. They didn't even patrol the highways like they do here. I saw drunks on public transportation and laughed with them. None of them drove home after drinking. I saw clean streets because city workers were out there every week making sure it was tidy. I saw festivals with families and alcohol and nobody getting shot or overly drunk or irresponsible. I saw news programs that actually discussed the news and not the latest mug shot of the criminal. I miss it sometimes but this is my home, my homeland and I speak the language and have since birth. They treated me well even though I was a foreigner and were kind.
We have so much work to do here.

(999 posts)Why would you preform a cavity search on a individual who was just shot. Were they looking for a weapon. The sad thing is that the Police will get off because the DA will either decline to press charges or he will let the officers testify before a grand jury and they will all state that they feared for thier lives. The county and town will quietly pay his medical bills and offer a undisclosed settlement. People have to pay the bills. Unfortunately the citizens will foot the bill for the settlement. Rinse and repeat.
