It's Time to Take It to the Republicans Over Their Protecting Trump

The Democrats have an opportunity – more than that, they have a duty – to intensify the pressure on the Republicans in Congress to protect the nation against Donald Trump.

Last Tuesday’s election made it quite clear: Donald Trump is a millstone around the neck of Republican politicians. But the weight of that millstone can be increased.

A deeply unpopular – not to say, much despised – president is always a liability for the political party with which he is associated. Trump hurts Republicans because they nominated him. Trump hurts Republicans because they have a shared, unpopular legislative agenda.

But he can hurt those Republicans still more deeply the more the public perceives them in terms of their disgraceful refusal to respond appropriately to the clear and present threat to the nation posed by Donald Trump.

They have a different sort of mindset than those who tend towards being Democrats/liberals/progressives. They have a knack for completely disconnecting themselves from rogue individuals within their collective and prefer to use and abuse to get what they want. They will easily discard those who don't meet their standards of the ends justifying the means and feel no guilt in doing so. They are birds of a feather that flock together.

"Shaming" them will only go but so far to nibble at the edges of their constituency and their core is becoming more and more unreachable.

A few more billionaires who are on our side need to put out some more ads in red states.

like an organized CRIME group, than actual "leaders" or even "representatives" As long as the Russian money is good, they will stand by tRump, even knowing he is a DUD. Lyin' Ryan and McTurtle are the two worst offenders. Hoolier than thou Pence is no better. Frauds, every one of them. Too bad the gop members who are not running again do not find their love of country, and tell all they know.

The standards citizens require of elected leaders have been lowered well below the bar of even minimal decency. Trump enablers are a sickening majority in the Republican Party. Republicans are willing to overlook just about anything Trump does as long as that helps reach a consensus to pass a bill and therefore solidify reelections.

There are a handful of Democratic Party leaders who regularly speak out against Trump, usually in response to a question. Given the grave concerns about the damage Trump is doing to our nation, I wonder why we don't hear from Democratic Party leaders,en masse, every single day.

Night time talk show hosts have been tougher on Trump than politicians charged with doing what's right for our country.

I believe historians are going to be tough on those who remained silent during these times.

Because Democrats (liberals/progressives) don't own the media.

When YOU own the megaphone, YOU control your message and can put it out there anytime you need to. I.e., you won't have to beg for or rely on when/if someone ELSE'S camera and/or microphone shows up or invites you on THEIR show.

I assume more could follow suit if they so desired. If a group of Democrats held a protest on the Capitol steps, I believe someone in the media would cover it.

not unlike McLame and Lindsey Graham who had similar. The rest who might get some sound bites are mostly ranking members of committees (like Schiff or Warner or Feinstein).

What might help (although it's seen mostly in our sphere vs the M$M) are tweets (we see such from some like Ted Lieu who speaks truth to power). But in the past, many of our "vocal" Democrats were not only attacked by the other side but by our own side.

I would not count on any "media" automatically covering a group "on the steps". The reason? The blabbering talking heads would prefer their own faces on air vs a "boring" press conference or statement. I have seen too many of these where they will "cut away" and start "interpreting" what is being said without even fucking showing what is being said. This is why I have pretty much stop watching them. It was too frustrating. Occasionally the CSPANs will air those "statements on the steps" IF either chamber of Congress is not doing something on the floor.

It's happening a bit, finally, and the very last thing we should do is push them back together from outside.

If a critical mass of reasonable conservative finally break with the extremist wing of the GOP, THAT'S THE GAME, the Koch-type kleptocrats and the Kremlin lose, America wins.

Note the relative public quiet beyond a few statements from party leaders like Pelosi, Schumer, Hillary, Obama. They know what they're doing. Unite a majority and win the war.
