McConnell Said to Be Willing to Lose Alabama Seat

November 12, 2017 at 10:23 am EST By Taegan Goddard

A Republican close to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) tells Axios: “McConnell is a very pragmatic guy, but he’s very principled guy. And he’s willing to lose the seat to prevent someone who’s guilty of these things from taking it.”

He knows the Republicans are screwed either way. A loss is worse in the short term, but a win will also have its repcussions for the GOP in 2018 if they don't distance themselves from Moore's sexual molestation of the 14 year old girl.

His principles here are purely politically motivated, in my opinion. They need the seat and the win, but he can't afford to act like he's hoping for Moore to win because they're going to have to keep him at arms length until after 2018.

Rarely does anything have repercussions for these lunatics.

Then only in specific races. Let's face it, some of their districts will be perfectly fine with Moore in the senate on their side. It's his vote that matters to them in the end.

This is what McConnel is playing at here, pretend he's morally shocked until they fabricate enough of a barrier to create some deniability for Moore, or until they can replace him with another Republican in the next election. Until then he's another vote for their causes. I don't believe for one minute McConnel would be ok with a loss by Moore, though.

That would be if the Senate refuses to seat Moore and force Alabama to have another election or for the Governor to reappoint Strange. Unless by refusing to seat Moore the Governor can wait until next year to have an election. But doesn't necessarily avoid the situation. Moore could still run again.

They cut of financing this creep. Truthfully, I think he could careless as long as he gets the tax cuts for his donors.

3. What’s in it for Putin?

4.....

99. What’s in it for people of my state?

100. What’s in it for people of my country?

I’d say the guy is rigidly principled, never varies from these principles.

And destroy the gop.

Cruz does what the donors want, but he’s smooth enough to dog whistle to the racists and get some of them while keeping the upper middle class onboard too.

Moore is getting the racists and christofascists, and those propagandized to hate dems by Fox and Limbaugh. But Northam showed this is NOT ENOUGH to win nationally. So GOP donors are telling McConnell to ditch Moore. It’s a pure political play.

Mccconnell would rather lose Moore’s seat than embolden the racist GOP base. GOP billionaire donors have been building the hate filled base via dog whistles for years. Trump stole that base by appealing to them directly. Now Bannon is trying to do the same.

McConnell is worried about his own power. He needs to keep the donor class and some centrists on board. Moore is scaring them off. Gillespie showed the racist base is not enough. THAT is why McConnell is anti Moore. It’s a power play.
