Senators introduce Assault Weapons Ban. All Democrats.

Democratic Senators are standing up to the NRA - proud to be a member of the party of progressives.

“We’re introducing an updated Assault Weapons Ban for one reason: so that after every mass shooting with a military-style assault weapon, the American people will know that a tool to reduce these massacres is sitting in the Senate, ready for debate and a vote.

“This bill won’t stop every mass shooting, but it will begin removing these weapons of war from our streets. The first Assault Weapons Ban was just starting to show an effect when the NRA stymied its reauthorization in 2004. Yes, it will be a long process to reduce the massive supply of these assault weapons in our country, but we’ve got to start somewhere.

“To those who say now isn’t the time, they’re right—we should have extended the original ban 13 years ago, before hundreds more Americans were murdered with these weapons of war. To my colleagues in Congress, I say do your job.

.......................................................

Joining Senator Feinstein on the bill are Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Tom Carper (D-Del.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Al Franken (D-Minn.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.).

"Thoughts and prayers" are merely empty and vapid, whereas an Assault Weapons Ban will step on a right that many voters hold dear.

DiFi is not helping to keep Americans safe with this bill, nor is she helping Democratic candidates' chances in 2018.

I'm disappointed to see the list of cosponsors. I anticipate that many of them eyeing the Presidency will regret this move in 2020. Also, do they plan to renounce all police protection by any officers carrying said "Assault Weapons?" I didn't think so.

From what I understand, it's incredibly important to get onboard with any and all progressive legislation, even if it's not really possible right now, or you are exposed as an establishment shill.

I certainly wouldn't think any progressive would want to be seen as an NRA shill, let alone an opportunist who put the wishes of their constituents ahead of what is best for the country in order to get re-elected.

That is unthinkable in a true progressive, I'm told.

The loop hole concerning high capacity magazines was so big one could steam a freight ship through it. And there was too much emphasis on cosmetic features which had nothing to do with the killing potential of the gun.

You can't really hunt anything with this, it's designed for warfare. For personal defense, it sucks. Have gun owners justify why they need an AR15.

From .17 Remington for varmints, 6.8mm SPC and .300 Blackout for deer, up to .450 Bushmaster for black bear. Outlaw one caliber and another will fill the gap fairly easy.

And FYI, most states allow .223 for deer and coyote hunting. Inside 100 yards with quality ammo, it will kill our big North Woods whitetail deer pretty effectively with a solid heart/lung shot.
