We just expanded our battlefield to target Speaker Paul Ryan in 2018, because no GOP seat should be safe next year -- not even the Speaker's Chair.

Democrats expand House map after election victories

House Democrats, bullish on their prospects in 2018 after election victories across the nation, are expanding the number of GOP-held districts they plan to target in their effort to win back the chamber.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) on Thursday released a list of 91 total House districts it plans to target in next year’s midterm elections. Democrats need to win 24 seats to win back the House.

That list includes 11 new districts, including Speaker Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) and three held by longtime GOP incumbents who recently announced plans to leave Congress.

Of those, retiring centrist Rep. Charlie Dent’s (R-Pa.) eastern Pennsylvania swing district will likely be the most competitive. Dent was considered a particularly skilled incumbent who would be tough to beat, but an open seat will make it up for grabs next year.

The DCCC is also expanding its map for far-reaching districts that would be tough to flip even in a tidal wave for Democrats, like the ones held by Ryan and House GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.).

Other newly-added districts include those held by Reps. Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio) and Lamar Smith (R-Texas), who are both not seeking reelection; Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah); Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), who is running for Senate; Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.); Rep. Trey Hollingsworth (R-Ind.); Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.); and Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.).

No unchallenged political contests every again. No never. Find a race at any level and enter it if you want to and can. No seat is off the table, not even that "dog catcher" seat.

what it suggests about increased chances of winning is expected to result in a bunch of well qualified candidates stepping up, and more people opening their wallets.

Reminds me of the Georgia 6th district congressional race to replace Tom Price. In spite of low chances of actually winning a special election in this long-Republican district, Jon Ossoff actually had the endorsements of some party leaders and Daily Kos, raising some real money for him. But he was very young, much younger than the average voter, had no serious experience to offer, and he didn't even live in the district! On top of that, he didn't even look like he did. And he did fabulously well considering.

I'm hoping this exposure and performance mean Ossoff'll now be one of our new crop of strong candidates in 2018 or 2020, but just imagine if a powerhouse contender had been available when Tom Price's seat came up for grabs? This is one of the biggest things Tuesday may have accomplished for us.

for Ossoff's loss: THE VOTING MACHINES ARE RIGGED IN GA

as they are in most places throughout the country.

Except for that unsettling FACT, Ossoff would probably have won the whole schmear.

The amount of the rigging also varies so in some places it's possible for Dems to win even close races. This is not true in GA however.

There's no way of knowing of course (and this is true thru-out the country in almost every race) BECAUSE THE VOTE IS NEVER VERIFIED. In many cases, it's impossible to verify the vote either b/c the laws forbid it or the district or precinct uses touch screen screens that don't have any paper.

editor of Atlantic said something to the effect that a bunch of right-wing powers had to have awakened Wednesday morning realizing they were going to have to get "serious" about vote suppression because they know they can't win honestly and have no intention of losing. I'm sure he meant get more serious.

"One risks underestimating how intense the struggle for power is going to be." -- David Frum

But, at least it now looks like some fit warriors will be hitting the arena.

that my Google photos made a face category for him. He's thinking of running, and I hope he has moved. He lived a couple of miles outside the district because his fiance needs to be close to Emory where she's a medical student, and he grew in the district.

But that is a pretty safe, well-gerrymandered district.
