In case you hadnt heard, Tuesday was a fairly bad night for Donald Trump and the Republican Party, especially in the states of Virginia and New Jersey where Democrats won both governorships. No matter how the conservative media might spin it (or ignore it, apparently), Tuesday evening was an incredibly embarrassing night for Trump and the GOP.
1. Donald Trumps political clout and influence continues to prove to be weak and ineffective: Even though Trump and his supporters like to sell him as some strong, powerful leader who commands respect, reality doesnt quite back that up. Not only did Trumps constant social media whining and bullying not push his own party to support his efforts to repeal Obamacare, but his endorsements of certain political candidates dont seem to matter all that much, either.
A few weeks ago Trump endorsed Luther Strange, who went on to lose his special election primary battle to legitimately batcrap crazy Roy Moore. The president also threw his support behind Ed Gillespie in Virginia, who then lost to Ralph Northam. I think its also important to point out that during the GOPs primary battle to see whod run against Northam, Trump endorsed Corey Stewart who then lost to Gillespie.
Meaning that not only did Trumps original choice, Stewart, lose his primary battle despite his endorsement, but Gillespie, who ran a very Trump-like campaign and was eventually endorsed by the current president, also lost.
So much for all that winning.

(32,645 posts)It's been mentioned in previous posts on DU that Virginia required voting on paper ballots in Tuesday's election. Paper ballots are difficult to hack (unlike electronic voting machines) and also provide back-up in case a recount should be needed. Not mentioned in the article by Forward Progressive, but it's important nonetheless.
Until the electronic voting machines can be proven to be unhackable (which will probably never happen) we should go back to paper ballots in every state and county. There's no reason why it couldn't be done before next year's election in November 2018. Democrats need to make this a priority in every state.
Just remember that the GOP has to cheat in order to win. They're always looking for ways to game the system and electronic voting machines are one of the biggest ways they can cheat. Gerrymandering is another one, but that can't be fixed for a few years.

(32,645 posts)I think we need to contact somebody high up in our own state, such as the Governor or Secretary of State.
I've been emailing my Governor Tom Wolf (D-Pennsylvania). I think they're already looking into it for next year.
Good luck!
