should have the decency to pull their movie for awhile.
I suppose Hollywood corporate greed precludes that though.

(1,374 posts)It would be the right thing to do. And, since money is probably most important to them, it may actually help their botom line. Some may avoid this movie now in fear of a copycat attack.
EDIT: Since many disagree I'd like to explain more.
I am not blaming a movie for this tragic shooting but everyone will associate this movie with this shooting now.
We don't know the motivation for this attack yet. There could be a coordinated attempt with others to kill people in more theaters showing this move for all we know.
The shooting may encourage other crazies to do a copycat crime.
Temporarily pulling the movie would be a show of respect for human life over profit.
At least, they should stop showing it in the area of the shooting.
It is possible something about this specific movie influenced the shooter. That does not make it the movie's fault, but if so, the safest thing would be pull the movie temporarily.
This movie is getting a lot more publicity now due to this shooting. Keeping it open makes it look like Warner is profiting off of a tragedy.
I want to see this movie and I'd have no problem waiting a few extra days out of respect. if they keep it open I understand that decision (because it's clearly NOT the movie's fault) and I won't be offended.
Just my 2 cents.

(62,444 posts)The Columbine shooting happened at around the time of the release of The Matrix, and a number of folks were bothered by the lobby scene in which Neo, clad in a trench coat, shoots up the place.

(6,238 posts)However, I think it could have been the midnight premier of any big movie. The guy wanted an easy target. To be honest, I'm more worried about our country addressing our gun laws than a movie. Pulling the movie won't prevent these things from happening again, but changing our gun laws might.

I wouldn't be surprised if individual theaters in the area decide not to show it for a few days, if for no other reason than out of concern for a copycat event.

(26,083 posts)They have already cancelled all overseas premieres, and have a marketing blackout through the weekend. That IS huge for a major studio to do for a blockbuster.
