A year after Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but ultimately lost the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump, a large population of Twitter is doing a rallying hoorah to honor Clinton's lasting legacy.
Since Tuesday evening, #ThankYouHillary has been trending in some capacity in the United States, with Clinton enthusiasts voicing their support for her in these continuously trying political times. Despite a year passing since Clinton's defeat, the sentiments were just as poignant and thoughtful as ever. "We honor you today. You've created a tidal wave of women and girls that are inspired and hopeful. You've paved the way and opened doors. We're still here fighting for right and doing all the good we can because of you," one user wrote. "#ThankYouHillary for cracking the glass ceiling. It is our job to shatter it. We wont let you down. #GirlPower" another write. Added a third: "#ThankYouHillary for all the work you've done for #LGBTQ people during your tireless public service when it wasn't a popular or easy stance. For all your work to fighting HIV AIDS."

I just wanna say, #ThankYouHillary for standing up to Trump even when the media mocked you relentlessly.
Thank you giving voice to our opposition to white supremacy and the patriarchy.

Many Twitter users were quick to note how a handful of political wins Tuesday night was a positive aftereffect of Clinton's loss. Danica Roem, for instance, became the first transgender person to be elected to the Virginia legislature. "#ThankYouHillary for your leadership. Last nights victory was possible because of the path you have paved (and continue to pave)," the Women's March account wrote. "#ThankYouHillary for not going away. For being a strong, sane, mature presence in politics. You are my president. The worst man won," added another user. Perhaps most lovingly: "#ThankYouHillary for never quitting, for your grace, for your strength. For showing us that we are #StrongerTogether & together we will do great things, our country depends on us, we showed up & we did it because of you."

(27,832 posts)but damn, I wanted to win that battle. It still hurts every day.
My BF was trying to console me today, but saying that in some way she's actually functioning as a shadow president. While on some level that may be true, it doesn't change the fact that Trump spends every day trying (and sometimes succeeding) to dismantle government and pass dangerous laws, as well as undo good legislation.
So, #ThankYouHillary, from the bottom of my heart.

(42,014 posts)Which is sad, because shes a powerful African American womans voice. And AA women are leading the way for the Democratic Party. Any direction or change in our party realistically needs to involve acknowledging and honoring this.
