(25,902 posts)I lived in Minneapolis in 1982-83, and it was as lily white a city as could be.
It's changed a lot since then, I know, and at the risk of seeming patronizing, it's all for the better.

(21,646 posts)St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and mayoral candidate Pat Harris called on the leadership of the citys police union to resign Thursday evening, decrying as racist the groups recent criticism
Besides statement from Carters campaign, Coleman and Harris separately criticized the attacks as racially motivated a charge rejected by Police Federation President Dave Titus.
David Titus and the board of the Saint Paul Police Federation have embarrassed the good men and women of the Saint Paul Police Department for too long, Coleman wrote in a Facebook post. The racist attacks and hollow apologies of the last two days may have been aimed at one candidate, but they affect all people of color, and all people of character. They are not worthy of Saint Paul.
Less than two hours later, Harris said in an emailed statement that there is absolutely no place in Saint Paul for the type of dirty, political tactics and dog whistle racism that have come from the Saint Paul Police Federations leadership over the past few days.
And Harris and Coleman were running against Carter in the election! That's how ugly the police union got
Hmmm now I wonder what that Police Federation didn't like about Carter to get so involved in the election???

(146,331 posts)Now, the person they slandered is the Mayor. Isn't that interesting. I foresee some very interesting meetings with the new mayor by Police officials in St. Paul. I expect a few resignations, to boot.
Congratulations, Mayor Carter!
