"You people" wasn't the worst part

Everyone is focusing on Ann Romney's use of "you people." Yes, it's bad, judging by the corporatist media's attempt to sanitize it by shortening it to "people" or "you." It clearly demonstrates her elitism and sense of entitlement.

What's worse, though, is the next part. "You have all you need to know."

That's something you say to a child or a servant or, if you're an asshole of a boss, an employee -- although most employees would chafe at it.

It's dismissive. It's paternalistic. It's "I know better than you. You're an idiot." Or "I'm entitled to this information and you, because of your lowly status, are not."

She's appointing herself as the sole judge of what we "need to know."

politically, she loves Obama. Anyway, she initiates the conversation with "So, what the hell is with that broad and her "You people"...who the hell does she think she's talking to?" OMG, this woman keeps me in stitches constantly. I think she articulated the sentiment of many with her observation. I told her she was spot on, made her day. Still laughing.

This sort of arrogance often comes from years of being insulated from the responsibilities and obligations that most of us accept as an integral part of being a participating member of society not a wealthy, selfish island (perhaps a Cayman Island?) unto oneself.

To make the statement - everyone gets chastised when we say she is an arrogant asshole who has no idea about how things work.

Like - if she wants her husband to get that job he believes his is BIRTH RIGHT then he's working for me, his boss . . . and my direct reports will tell you that although I'm 'fair' - I'm tough and demanding.

The World's Biggest Entitlement Program is the one embraced by the GOP - that asserts their Divinely decreed right to rule. They believe the White House is theirs simply because it's their birthright.

I saw that video clip. Her Ladyship, ann of dressage. DISGUSTING!!!!! She was arrogant, patronizing, and smug as hell. Even moreso than when shitty mitty called her over to the podium at the NRA convention and she stood there smiling down on the crowd with this smug snooty smirk on her face reeking of superiority in what looked like a hand-painted silk dress that probably cost a house payment or two. I've never seen a superiority complex that huge or that blatant! She does indeed put the "ann" in Marie "Ann"toinette. I think I'll start spelling it that way.

HOWEVER, I was working with the widely-recognized meme or generality. The whole "let 'em eat cake" thing - which I believe is a made-up quote that she actually never said. But the quote "let 'em eat cake" has come to be a well-established metaphor, signifying a whole mindset of the arrogance of the haves and have-mores in the face of the needy, the poor, the have-nots and the have-nothings. That's what I was referring to.

that bread was so important to the people of that time that there were laws governing it. To prevent the bakers from deliberately not baking enough plain bread to force people to buy more expensive varieties, the law said that when the bread ran out, the bakers had to sell the more expensive brioche at the same price. So, when someone -- whoever -- was told that the people didn't have enough bread, and said "let them eat the brioche," it wasn't as calloused as it sounds today -- especially when it's translated "cake."

I posted this in another thread about ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson:

"Tillerson blamed a public that is "illiterate" in science and maths, a "lazy" press, and advocacy groups that "manufacture fear" for energy misconceptions, in a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations... The industry's biggest challenge, he said, is "taking an illiterate public and try to help them understand why we can manage these risks..."
