Perriello ran against Northam in the primary and became a secret weapon for Northam.
As soon as the results of the primary were called he jumped on board with the Northam, Fairfax, Herring Ticket. He then spent a lot of time championing his primary opponent and increased his own visibility on social media.
As a reminder, our primary slipped into the old "establishment" vs "Outsider." It did get heated as most primaries do. How he handled himself in defeat. should be an example of how we can have a lively primary and not carry the bitterness into a general election.
He proved me wrong as I didn't think having a contested primary would help us. So as a Northam primary supporter. I wanted to say I hope he runs for a statewide election soon. I'd be happy to support him and he's done a lot to put himself ahead of any other candidate.

(2,301 posts)I got the sense he would be a team player regardless of what happened in the primary. He's a pragmatic progressive who doesn't just talk the talk, but rolls up his sleeves to do all he can to make sure progressive outcomes are achieved.
Completely ecstatic about the results tonight. This isn't a victory for any "side" of the Democratic party. It's a victory for teamwork and a broad and diverse progressive coalition (from "moderates" to "socialists" and everyone in between!).
