I fucking HATE Republicans. HATE, HATE, HATE!

Legal Battles Erupt Over Tough Voter ID Laws

Four years ago as Viviette Applewhite, now 93, was making her way through her local Acme supermarket, her pocketbook hanging from her shoulder, a thief sliced the bag from its straps.

A former hotel housekeeper, Ms. Applewhite, who never had a driver’s license, was suddenly without a Social Security card. Adopted and twice married, she had several name changes over the years, so obtaining new documents was complicated. As a result, with Pennsylvania now requiring a state-approved form of photo identification to vote, Ms. Applewhite, a supporter of President Obama, may be forced to sit out November’s election for the first time in decades.

Incensed, and spurred on by liberal groups, Ms. Applewhite and others like her are suing the state in a closely watched case, one of a number of voter-identification suits across the country that could affect the participation of millions of voters in the presidential election.

“They’re trying to stop black people from voting so Obama will not get re-elected,” Ms. Applewhite said as she sat in her modest one-bedroom apartment in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, reflecting a common sentiment among those who oppose the law. “That’s what this whole thing is about.”

Brava, Ms. Applewhite, brava! This is a woman who was born around 1919.....she's seen it all when it comes to discrimination....oh hell, dehumanizing repression to a life of a different kind of slavery than her grandparents likely experienced and a step up from what her parents experienced, but slavery nonetheless. And here she is at 93 fighting back.

Every single one of those Republican wastes of oxygen are no better than slave owners -- that's what they want to be.....overlords with the power to rid the plebeians of their rights, and they're going at it at breakneck speed, starting with those uppity minorities who need to relearn their place and worth.

I fucking hate them. They are out to destroy us and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and let them do it without an unprecedented fight. I've contributed to Democrats, particularly progressives, more than I ever have in recent elections -- it's not much given my meager income since I had to stop working due to disability, but contribute I have. And I've been pushing friends, even those who think they can't afford to give to find it in themselves to give $5, $10, $20. I'm furious with Obama about so many things and swore I'd never contribute to him again. I contributed. My measly contribution won't make a damn bit of difference facing down the zillionaires determined to oust Obama, but a million such contributions gives him more of a financial fighting chance. We'll never match the zillionaires' funds, but maybe we don't have to....we have the far better candidate on our side, and he's fighting like a prize fighter right now. I'm pretty much housebound without wheelchair transport (except to medical appointments).....but I can do a fair amount of volunteering from home. I fucking HATE the telephone and making campaign calls and, more importantly, GOTV calls.....but I'm doing it.

At 93-years-old, Viviette Applewhite is in there fighting for her rights. We damn well should be by her side fighting for her and for all of our rights. And that's what this election comes down to -- the possibility....no probability that more and more of our rights will disappear the more Republicans are able to steal their way into office.

I have all the hatred of everything of the NEW GOP that Kahn had for Captain Kirk. Their policies have already destroyed so much in this country already. Romney and the NEW more racist and bigoted than ever will be there to pound on what rubble is left should he get elected.

Remember the Ryan budget is only a beginning blue print of what the GOP has in store for middle America.

Damn, you speak from profound experience!

I'm terrified at the local level.....polls show our abysmal ReTHUG candidate for governor of NC way ahead of our very good Dem candidate (currently our lieutenant governor under excellent Beverly Purdue, who isn't running for reelection). Similarly, we've been redistricted -- I'm now in a red district, along with most of liberal Asheville, NC. There's a Daily Kos post that gives me an iota of hope, but I'm concerned we'll be outvoted and stuck with the current smarmy ReTHUG representative. (Even our county Board of Commissioners is affected -- a couple of the commissioners no longer live in the district they're supposed to live on to be on the Commission.....all 5 of the Democratic county Commissioners are up for reelection in the redistricted county....I don't even know what it means for their reelections!

2010 saw the state legislature flip -- it was majority Dem. Like so many other states, the ReTHUGS are now majority in both houses. The bills, laws & policies proposed by the ReTHUGS are akin to the other horrific states now dominated by ReTHUGS. Thank goodness for our Dem governor, though the ReTHUGS have been able to override some of her vetoes (most recently fracking).....fortunately, they weren't successful at overriding her voter ID veto.....yet.

And if they take the majority in both houses of the federal legislature and...

If a 93 year old woman can see through their obvious racism - what does that say?

Thank you for the "I FUCKING HATE REPUBLICANS", message, it was right on point and told the cold, hard truth of what they are doing to our country by disenfranchising voters of color. People of color were instrumental in winning the 2020 election and now Republicans are trying to disenfranchise their votes by passing legislation to keep people of color and poor people from voting. This is one of the many and diverse reasons I FUCKING HATE REPUBLICANS and hope they lose the next elections and that their lies get them nowhere.
