Romney's tax returns 1999-2003 would show if he truly left Bain Capital.

He'd declare income as CEO if he was in fact still running the business. I doubt he'd donate his time. Likewise with Bain Capital's returns; they'd show who they paid as CEO.

"You people" are simply looking for target practice issues. Things you can shoot at and rip to shreds to kill the wonderful, ten percent church donating, work for nothing at the Olympics because he didn't need it man who loves dogs and horses. Now, leave him alone.

he didn't need to work for that money, because it would have been payment for any of a number of things -- retirement benefits, deferred compensation, severence, hush money, stand-by consulting fees, whatever. as sole shareholder, he could do pretty much whatever he wanted. he wan't going to fire himself even if he didn't work a day.

his tax returns would only show how much he got, not what it was for.

his tax records won't shed any further light on the specific question of when he "left" bain capital -- but they would answer deeper questions regarding the lengths he goes to to avoid taxes.
