Binary choices. Black and white issues. You're either for us or against us. Really?
We liberals talk a great deal about "tolerance", but I'm not sure all of us understand that a big part of the concept involves the often difficult task of forgiveness. Like young lovers, some "head over heels" libs project our ideals onto this or that candidate or party leader and when, inevitably, we find them falling short of our expectations, we wail about how we have been betrayed and ill-used.
But, if we persevere---"persist"---if you will, long enough to become OLD lovers, we will have learned to be gentler with those who see the world as we do and who, when push comes to shove, can be relied upon to have our back. We understand, after years and tears and scars too numerous too bother recounting, that if we agree with someone 80% of the time, the other 20% is within the "margin of error" which reasonable, caring, TOLERANT folks concede to each other. And, if we are just totally convinced that a friend and ally has said or done something we find offensive and wrong, find a way to move past it. Forgive.
Nearly everyone who posts here agrees with more than 80% of each other's opinions on matters of substance. We should be treating each other better and directing our passion toward replacing the troglodytes now in power.
That's it.
