Former Justice Department official Patrick Trueman, who proudly participated in federal pornography prosecutions during their heyday in the late 1980s and early 1990s, told The Daily Caller that Mitt Romneys campaign assured him that Romney would vigorously prosecute pornographers if elected president.
Trueman, the president of Morality in Media, contacted the Romney campaign earlier this year about the untreated pandemic of Internet pornography. They got back to us right away, he said.
Bob Flores, another former Justice Department official who prosecuted pornographers, accompanied Trueman to an hour-long meeting with Romney foreign and legal policy director Alex Wong, Trueman said.
Wong assured us that Romney is very concerned with this, and that if hes elected these laws will be enforced, Trueman told TheDC. They promised to vigorously enforce federal adult obscenity laws.
Trueman said he would like for Romney to speak publicly about cracking down on porn, but believes Romney avoids the subject because he saw that Rick Santorum got beat up in the mainstream press for being so forthright.

(53,661 posts)If he never does view it, but actually is faithful to his wife and that stuff, it still doesn't make him fit to be president. It's an illusion all the religious candidates sell the public.
His sociopathic ways are dangerous to anyone who is within his power. But we're really talking about a voting block that for the most part, is no engaged in a struggle to survive economically. Or they wouldn't take time out to manage other people's lives...

Just remember how they had conniptions when Clinton wanted V-chips put in TV sets. This is no different. Either this will make their heads explode out of confusion, or they'll explode altogether from being so full of shit.

(28,979 posts)Romney seemed to say the right words for Trueman in 2007, when he was campaigning for president in Iowa the last time. "We got to clean up the water that our kids are swimming in," he said in a TV ad. "And by that I mean the pornography, the drug culture, the violence, the sex, the perversion that bombards them day in and day out. So I want to make sure we enforce our obscenity laws."
Romney has promised that if elected president he would require every new computer be sold with a porn filter.
Despite those tough words, Romney's campaign has taken campaign cash from the head of a company that produces hard-core pornography. And gay porn filmmaker Michael Lucas, who has endorsed Romney, told the Daily Caller, I dont see any danger coming from Romney when it comes to porn. Its just not there."
There may be another reason Romney isn't talking up porn: he needs the support of millions of primary voters who supported Ron Paul, who did not make opposition to sexually explicit materials a campaign plank.

So from this article , I am to conclude Romney supporters hate porn worse than dirty underwear. But Ron Paul's supporters are wanking pervs. OK.

(21,925 posts)While normally I wouldn't care about someone's beliefs as long as they don't affect their public acts in office, since Romney is not just a believer but a church official, I think we need to know if he thinks he has a specific mission for Mormon doctrine on behalf of his church and what that might be.

(611 posts)This could be like one of the DU porn threads, played out on a national scale. Yeeks. It sort of seems like they're pursuing that angle, given how Morality in Media promotes its cause:
... pornography is a common cause of the destruction of marriage. It leads to misogyny and violence against women and is a contributing factor in sexual trafficking.

It's the same way with abortion, I know wingnuts who have actually had abortions and taken family members to have abortions who will nevertheless vote for a candidate based on the single issue of promising to make abortion illegal.

(1,569 posts)He is going after internet porn with the filters. It is internet porn that is harming the porn industry. People don't go to adult bookstores or theaters (well, except for Fred Willard) when they can easily get tons of pirated and free porn of every variation on the internet. No need to risk an embarrassing charge on your business hotel receipt if you can simply boot your laptop and hit the porn "tubes".
As with most things republican, there is no greater sin than disrupting a money-making business and no sin in making money (even from gay porn).
