Ahole Lewandowski: Why would Ds pay for this false dossier?

Stupid people think they’re smarter than anyone else.

Oppo research is never, EVER done to dredge up false information. A campaign can do that all on their own, free of charge.

Oppo research is done to find incriminating TRUTHS about the opposition. Those truths are then used to negatively impact the opponent.

The memo has gone out - Rs have been ordered to say the Ds paid for “false” information. Stupid on its face, as information gathered that one knows is false is the definition of unusable lies.

if Vesel'nitskaya had provided information about HRC for pay, it must therefore be true. Because opposition research is never done to dredge up false information.

Here's how it actually works.

Opposition research is never done to dredge up information that the researchers know to be false. They can be wrong. In other words, opposition researchers are not infallible. You say as much in your last line; but you seem to deny that truth or miss a rather non-nuanced point one paragraph earlier.

In other words, what if you're given information that you don't know is false because you can't verify the facts independently? What if you're given a mix of information, some doctored and some true--some of which you can verify, and some of which you cannot. Then you're in classic disinformation territory. "But these claims were true, therefore it's all true" is the thinking that those providing the information want to have accepted as valid.

It's really an appeal to authority. "Because these x claims turned out to be true, the person can be trusted to provide only true facts."

There are a lot of appeals to authority of one kind or another.

Part of being a spy is doing counterespionage. That's not just rolling up espionage operations--sometimes it's more useful to use the enemy's spies to mislead their employers. You plant false information. You plant misleading information. Then you plant corroborating information through another source. And the more the claim that the information must be true because it was stolen, the better your misinformation looks. The more your narrative dovetails with what the enemy already thinks, the better the duping. Again, classic disinformation.

The dossier'll be proven to be true when it's proven to be true. Just as the claim made about Vesel'nitskaya's information would be proven true only when actually proven true.

paid for it anyway. They are not trying to make logical arguments about why Hillary paid for some of this oppo research or the theoretical quality of oppo research in general. They are trying to smear her with the idea that she is responsible for the ENTIRE "FAKE" RUSSIA COLLUSION STORY BECAUSE SHE "KNEW" ALL ALONG THAT THE DOSSIER WAS "FAKE NEWS."

Lewandowski and other campaign persons who have been rabidly arguing this point on any media outlet that allows them on keep trying to "prove" that HRC knew the dossier was false the whole time yet still paid for it...because she is HRC and she is responsible for all evil in the world (sarcasm -- this is how they work). They want to pin the "fake dossier starts fake Russia collusion" story on her because they think people will buy it. It's the same as their sudden rediscovery of the uranium deal. I think that is what the OP was expressing.
