Bye bye Betsy? .....(paging Dan Quayle...)

Her first budget proposal for the department — one which would have slashed funding from multiple school programs and reapportioned that money to DeVos’ pet cause, “school choice” — was rejected by Congress. Now, with her agenda on the rocks and morale at the Education Department cratering, some predict that DeVos may return to the private sector sooner than she’d planned.

“She can talk about bureaucracy and how constraining it is for her, but a Republican-controlled Congress rejected her budget proposals.
She can’t fill her senior staff slots. Morale is terrible at the department,” says Thomas Toch of FutureEd —
an education think tank affiliated with Georgetown University’s McCord School of Public Policy.

“And I’ll tell you, in Washington education circles, the conversation is already about the post-DeVos landscape, because the assumption is she won’t stay long. And for my money, I don’t think it would be a bad thing if she left. I think she’s been probably one of the most ineffective people to ever hold the job.”

Probably what she was put there to do in the first place. Not to say that I don't want her gone but anybody else Trump replaces her with will be equally loathsome (and won't reverse any decisions made by DeVoss). It burns me knowing that Pence had to cast a tie-vote to just get her confirmed by a bare majority of the Republican Senate. THAT alone should have been a sign that she was the wrong nominee for the job, but Republicans.don't.care.

And at very least hundreds of metamillionaires and billionaires are with him on this. They resent paying taxes to educate millions of stupid, unworthy drags on society who can hardly do more than read after 12 years of public investment. They "know" the worthy little people will learn to take care of themselves.

If DeVos goes, it'll change nothing, unless her replacement is a more competent barbarian. Some share DeVos's Christian reconstructionism goals, but most can't be bothered destroying society to save souls. They just want a reordered society where the little people are careful to stay out of their way and know better than to demand anything of them. Russia and Iran are actually pretty good examples.

But prison sentences would be even better. Some of these pathetically ungreat people who've lived their lives arrogantly, and even gleefully and proudly, above the law are protected for some crimes by statutes of imitations, but not for sure not all.

people in this Trump administration is truly breathtaking.

From what little I know about DeVos, I suspect she simply doesn't know very people who could possibly be asked to fill her senior staff slots.

If I were somehow given her job, for which I'm not much more qualified than she is other than I support public education, I'd reach out to teachers I know and ask them to start referring me up the education ladder so I could find the people I'd need to do the job and to help me do the job. I still wouldn't do a very good job because I just don't know that much about the entire educational system, although I suspect I actually know a great deal more than she does.
