I have certainly seen some questionable posts here and there on DU.
If the Russians infiltrated Facebook, Twitter, and Google, why wouldn't they try it at DU? Could be beneficial, to them, to discourage hard-core Democrats.

(7,809 posts)While I generally avoid posting in long and contentious threads, I read them. That's where you get to see a lot of posters who are actively doing their best to drive wedges between us. There are some poster names who show up a lot in those.

(4,461 posts)... posters, and always very divisive issues. I also note that, at times, they seem to post essentially the same responses with the same links - over and over again. Sometimes in the same thread, and sometimes in different threads almost simultaneously. Usually without much direct response to the post to which they are actually responding.
Some of these same posters also post A LOT of short and a little out of place "Hi" and "How are you" comments - with multiple smilies. Perhaps that's just their style. To each their own. But that would also be a way of creating post count status.
Of course, I could just be paranoid. My cereal told me that this morning. And the rotors on the black helicopters I can't see or hear consciously thump that same thing in subliminal Morse code. So what do I know?

(36,865 posts)I am more concerned about posts trying to make DUers suspicious of one another.
An example: shut down less than 12 hours ago by an admin: https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029778665

(6,839 posts)I have wondered about a certain DU member whose posts always cause me to feel hopeless and frustrated in terms of the Democratic party. To me, it appears that this person intentionally sows seeds of conflict and doubt.
Perhaps there are others.

(9,019 posts)I can imagine that a post like mine could be construed as trying to foment suspicion, but with all the wierd shit popping up these days leading back to Russia, it made me think about DU. If the Admins decide to lock it, that's cool.
I guess just as bad would be Pollyanna posts that never see anything negative.
Skepticism is a good thing.

(6,839 posts)My post referred to another DUer whose posts are often negative. But, he/she might just be playing the devil's advocate.
I really don't want to judge other DUers, but honestly, I have wondered about Russian trolls.

"The symbol for the planet and goddess Venus or Aphrodite in Greek is the sign also used in biology for the female sex.[8] It is a stylized representation of the goddess Venus's hand-mirror or an abstract symbol for the goddess: a circle with a small equilateral cross underneath. The Venus symbol also represented femininity, and in ancient alchemy stood for copper. Alchemists constructed the symbol from a circle (representing spirit) above an equilateral cross (representing matter)."

"
In nature, uranium is found as uranium-238 (99.273999.2752%), uranium-235 (0.71980.7202%), and a very small amount of uranium-234 (0.00500.0059%).[4] Uranium decays slowly by emitting an alpha particle. The half-life of uranium-238 is about 4.47 billion years and that of uranium-235 is 704 million years,[5] making them useful in dating the age of the Earth."

(4,138 posts)Ever since the Ukraine situation started up. But I am also starting to wonder if some of the posters I dismissed as homegrown trolls and crackpots were just a little more subtle and sophisticated than the "Hey, whats the big deal with Russia just annexing Crimea?" crowd.

(16,887 posts)I have noticed consistently people who drive wedges and actively post or push topics and often with wild stories. One of my favorites was the one about someone's boyfriend being detained and then deported. There are many others and I am sure that our admins are aware too.

(3,105 posts)and it seems like there has always been members whose intention is to disrupt. Along with people that love to dismiss, argue, promote , mine, and anything else that goes along with a big tent party discussion board
One thing that astounds me about "this time", is the amount of times I am asked to be on a jury. Like every other time i sign on to DU, I get that message asking if I can serve.
