(4,533 posts)Obama to jail for saying you can keep your doctor? Repubs see that as a lie even tho I dont.
We need to make it very hard to send elected officials and those who work for them to jail. Because political pressures will otherwise result in jail becoming common. And if jail becomes common most people will pass on public service, depriving us of many good public servants. Also if elected officials routinely face jail they will be tempted to subvert democracy, taking control with force. Frequent jail sentences for public service will make democracy almost impossible. It will turn us into a dictatorship.
We need to stand up to those who yell lock her up or lock him up. Its a really bad idea first brought to us in my lifetime by the evil completely dishonest Newt Gingrich, the prototype for the politician Orwell warned about.
I agree about jailing everyone. We will lose our democracy quickly if we start jailing our elected officials for minor reasons.
I agree about Gingrich, too. He is the one who started the divisiveness. He did away with the idea of compromise between the two parties. He forbade his caucus from fraternizing across the aisle. There are always commonalities between people. Even if they are very different in their political outlook, points of agreement can be found. These points of agreement are also the basis for foreign diplomacy. It is always better to keep people talking to each other.

(15,543 posts)I was taught as a young Christian lad. I mean, that sounds WAY serious, if you know what I mean. And there is this plainly stated clause in there about Bearing False Witness. But I bet some slick republican lawyers can find a 'work around' for her and her KGOP comrades.

(4,490 posts)I suppose it also depends on just how deep down the corruption hole she is. She may very well be intentionally shielded from such things to make the lies easier to tell as the mouthpiece of the administration. Basically "here's your list of what we want you to convey, don't fuck it up."
