Kelly is a neo-Confederate revisionist bigot

by Drew Salisbury / October 31, 2017

... He’s saying that the Union failed to adequately compromise over the right to own slaves. What would be the compromise? You get to own some slaves? Saying it was a different time and place is making excuses for racist whites — plenty of black people knew slavery was bad ...

And here:

The lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War. Men and women of good faith on both sides made their stand where their conscience had them make their stand.”

The South literally fought over slavery and the right to dissolve a country. Was this supposed good faith choice the choice to keep slaves, or to commit treason? Or both?

One hopes that Kelly was a better General than he is a political scientist.

All Robert E Lee did was kill soldiers who were fighting under the flag of the United States. He didn’t do anything horrible like kneel during the national anthem

all have something in common. They are nostalgic for the utopia of an antebellum America.

When Trump says Make America Great Again, he envisions an America that existed before the Civil War.
Most of the South and every bigoted racist pines for the good old days when rich, white males ruled the
country -- unchallenged -- and everyone else was treated like shit chattel.

The "Trump Base" would be more accurately referred to as the Regressive Antebellum Movement.

there is no other way to look at slavery than to see it as human trafficking for the purpose of forced labor. Now we hear about it in terms of sex trade but then it was for labor - and sex as well. How the hell can any American think we should have compromised on the sale of human beings and the children they would have while in bondage. No two sides to this.

Kelly is an alt-right idiot and a disgrace.
