Trump 'listened with interest' at Papadopolous pitch for campaign meeting with Putin

I stole the headline from RawStory but the extract, below, is from the article published by the NYT. Interesting information about Papadopoulos; little campaign experience, hired by the Ben Carson campaign for $5,500 per week after promising to raise $$$ from the Greek community. Carson's campaign collapsed, Papadopolous went to the Trump campaign. This is a very long article telling the story of how Trump created his foreign policy advisory board. What's below is just a snippet. - Don

Trump Foreign Policy Advisers Were Brought On to Solve a Political Problem. Now They Are One.

At a March 31 meeting in a foreman’s lounge at the Trump Hotel in Washington, which was under construction, with Mr. Trump and the rest of the foreign policy team, Mr. Papadopoulos pitched the idea of a personal meeting between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin. Mr. Clovis and others immediately expressed doubts about the wisdom of the idea, noting that Russia was under United States sanctions and denouncing the “optics” of a meeting with Mr. Putin, according a former campaign aide who attended the meeting.

But Mr. Trump listened with interest and asked questions of Mr. Papadopoulos. Mr. Trump “didn’t say yes, and he didn’t say no,” said the former aide, who agreed to describe the meeting on the condition of anonymity.

Finally, Mr. Sessions, as the campaign’s top national security official, spoke vehemently against the idea, asking others not to discuss it again. Mr. Trump did not challenge him, the former aide said.

Nonetheless, Mr. Papadopoulos continued to pursue the notion of some sort of meeting for several months, updating Trump campaign officials on his efforts, the court records showed.
