It wasnt one of his blockbusters, although it was filmed during his hey day. Her role as his murdered wife, in a flash back scene, was very small, but it was also the pivot point for the film.
What I remember her saying about him was that she found him to be a very weird guy. He barely said a word to her, so she thought, ok - its a job. Jeff Bridges was also in the film, and she found him to be wonderfully engaging, so if Spacey kept his distance, so be it. She had done enough work in Hollywood to have moved past the star struck stage.
One day she was standing, watching some of the production work when she felt what she thought was someones breath on the back of her neck. She looked over her shoulder and he was standing right behind her, with just millimeters separating them. He still never said a word. He just stood there. Given the nature of the film, perhaps he was just in character but she said it was one of the strangest acting situations she ever experienced.

So many succumbed to anguish and addiction.
Drew Barrymore clawed herself out to a decent life after her own mother basically pimped her out.
I really think the dam is about to break.
People are fed the fuck up.

Instant gratification, at its worst.

how our biggest celebs and "leaders" turn out to be the worst people in real life, when their outside world seems so clean and normal. i was a huge fan of cosby, listening to his records all the time as a kid, knew every word. then you learn what fucking scumbags they are and you have to ask yourself, "is that what it takes to become a somebody?"
if it is, count me as a nobody.
have to be a scumbag, you have to have an ego that is well above average sized. Which can lead to a certain amount of scumbaggery. I also think that travel in elite circles tends to warp people as to what's acceptable and what isn't.
Plus, let's face it, there's a lot of weirdness behind those doors you drive by on the way to your own house, but those people aren't Spacey or Cosby, so you never hear about it.

(19,114 posts)His apology says he doesn't remember it, but he was drunk when it would have happened. Wait, so you don't remember it, but you know you were drunk? How is that?
He was a creep and tried to force himself on a minor, his apology does little to own what he did.

Did you read the guy's allegations and the Spacey statement?

No where does he try to say that a reason he may not remember is because he may have been drunk.

(37,648 posts)There's one group that seems to view it as a calling. They take it seriously, go through training & classes. There's a history of centuries of serious actors...Shakespeare and whatnot.
But there's this other group. They have nothing to lose, are bopping around looking for something to do with their lives, or maybe attention seekers, narcissistic, or extremely handsome/beautiful or maybe the opposite of that.
The vocation attracts some oddballs and always has. Like a lot of the arts. Painters, writers. Just my opinion.

(37,648 posts)I have watched a couple of the old ones that I love. Polanski's films are just too good, like The Pianist. I just couldn't not watch it.
Cosby and Gibson, no problem passing up their lightweight stuff.
I don't view Stacey's actions in the same category as the others. He was apparently drunk (from the kid's own statement) and made a move on him. He didn't attack, try to talk him into anything, coerce him, use his position of power. If there are more reports like this, maybe. But if this was the only time, it's terrible, but not nearly what Polanski & Woody Allen & Cosby did. But I can see where others may not view it the same.

Younger Than Yesterday was STILL one of the best albums ever recorded, in my opinion, and I just have to let the artistry transcend the individuals who made up the band.

And this is not limited to Hollywood. Some people gravitate towards power primarily because it gives them a certain amount of sexual control.

Their father, Thomas Geoffrey Fowler, joined the American Nazi Party when Spacey and his brother were just boys. He trimmed his mustache to resemble Adolf Hitler and he regularly whipped and raped his eldest son, Randall Fowler.

This doesn't excuse Spacey's actions but he grew up surrounded by abuse and became an abuser himself.
