If you have comitted federal tax evasion, you have also committed state tax evasion because your state return is based on your federal income. So no pardon for Manafort because Trump can't pardon a state crime.

(12,344 posts)But NY expects you to pay taxes if you live in New York for part of the year. Many part year residents pretend they live in the lower tax state for the full year. This works best for retired people. Manafort worked and did business in NY for at least part of the year. So he is caught.

(4,742 posts)I live in Ohio where most municipalities have local income taxes. They are also based off of a federal tax return. If he evaded taxes on $75 million he'd owe lots and lots of back taxes plus fees/interest rates, etc.
