(34,136 posts)Last night MSNBC was unable to confirm the CNN information with additional sources. WAPO probably does not want to simply use CNN's unverified story as a story. That is just solid journalism.

(102,283 posts)restricted by their own policies from reporting... CNN likely has a direct contact with the individual(s) or the lawyer for the individual(s) targeted-or perhaps a line from a congressional staffer for one of the Russia-related committees that might have gotten a heads up.
Even Reuters admittedly reported with only one source.
Given the intense battle between CNN and the WH, I'm sure it has occurred to quite a few that they might be "set up", so caution is the word of the day, it seems.

(102,283 posts)Others have said CNN was reporting on one very reliable source, so I don't know....
On edit, CNN is saying on their site: "A federal grand jury in Washington on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. "
That to me sounds like they may have congressional committee sources...

(1,097 posts)So far there's ABC, MSNBC, CNN and Fox reporting the same story with limited details.
No comment from 45, just 3 tweets. One about today being National Prescription Drug Take Back Day; how nice of Carter to speak of how badly 45 is treated by press; and boasting that GDP is 3.0 which was announced yesterday -- "best consecutive quarters in years"
I wonder if he's finally learning to keep his mouth shut -- though it's a little late to make any difference.

(12,631 posts)They are frequently slow, but WaPo isn't. I'm pretending this story doesn't exist, until I hear from one of these two. I don't subscribe to the NYT, but I'm guessing they have nothing yet either.
