...they didn't approve the Whitefish deal.
Who the F did then??
ON EDIT
My initial thought was this contract needed Whitehouse approval and that Whitefish being Zinke's hometown it stunk.
Realizing now it is a contract separate from the Whitehouse I stand corrected.
I still think the "coincidence" of Zinke's hometown and Whitefish corporation needs to be vetted.

(82,849 posts)Too bad it can't be reviewed, audited or rescinded. What's done is done. The United States has no choice but the pay Whitefish $300 million, which is why they were willing to pull their 44 contractors out of Puerto Rico: Whitefish gets paid regardless.

(82,849 posts)According to the contract: "In no event shall PREPA, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the FEMA Administrator, the comptroller general of the United States, or any of their authorized representatives have the right to audit or review the cost and profit elements of the labor rates specified herein."

(12,344 posts)So FEMA can say they refuse to reimburse the costs. Other contractors who could have done the work had they been given a chance can get the contract voided. In fact, if I were one of them, I'd be in court Monday.

(811 posts)Remember ,they only had two employees at the onset. A bunch of scam artists trying to raid the federal treasury. I think there should be a call for Zinkypoo to resign.

(12,344 posts)Zinke didn't have to approve it. He just had to suggest it. And I doubt he did it in an email.

(30,613 posts)We all know the pattern now.
"That was strictly a local decision; it's highly inappropriate for you to keep asking about it."
"The P.R. governmnent asked for suggestions, and we gave them some."
"Yes, we told the PR gov't they should use our crony, but it was their final decision."
"Yes, we told them they had to use our crony, but that's perfectly legal."
"OK it would normally be illegal but it's not illegal if the President does it."
"Look! Over there! Some town just voted to remove a Robert E. Lee statue and that's horrible; our very fine white supremacist friends should go and do something about it."
"What contract? Are you re-litigating that again?"

(6,324 posts)He's the Secretary of the Interior.
That agency has zero oversight over a contract signed by a utility company owner by a US Territory.
Why does anyone think that he would have any role in approving it?
