That's what Ann Romney thinkks of the rest of us, you people.

All I can say is I didn't like it one whit. Perhaps she thought it was an acceptable substitute for a slur that contains the term "uppity?"

(47,992 posts)said yesterday, I believe, that it'd be making no further critique of Ann Romney and now, today, this fucking board is full of Ann stuff. It looks very much as though some people WANT to fuck with a pretty good victory strategy.
The Dem Party is right on this. It's pretty low and base to go after Ann the way you're seeing here.
Objective statement of facts, fine.
Personal vindictive vendetta stuff is ugly and beneath us. It's REPUBLICAN. We don't need it to win and it OBSCURES our rational case for why we are right.

Please. Willard needs to stop hiding behind his wife, but so long as he is using her as his mouthpiece, his comments, through her, deserve discussion.
The Democratic Party isn't going to make fun of her fucking HORSE anymore. If she carries water for Mitt, she deserves to get some smackback for her dismissal of any calls for release of those tax returns, as well as her "You people" comments.
Unless you people think that speaking in that high handed tone is an acceptable way to converse...?
She may as well have just said Fuck Y'All, because that's how it came off.

In fact Barbara the Elder got GHWB in trouble because she didn't back down on the topic. If Annie wants to play in the arena, someone should ask her about the check she hand-wrote out to Planned Parenthood...and how that squares with her present views on the topic. Make her squirm--she'll go back to bouncing on the horsies...

I think we might need a clue as to where the supposed misogyny is. No one forced Mrs. Rmoney to appear on that show, no one buttonholed her on the way to the ladies' room or her limousine, blocked her path, and shoved a microphone in her face. She made the appointment, she prepared for the encounter. She wanted to be there.
She is choosing to be a mouthpiece for her husband, playing the Pat Nixon role in an attempt to mitigate the lack of "likability" her husband suffers (Pat was also admired and respected, "Plastic Pat" detractors notwithstanding; Tricky Dick was not).
Ann RMoney is no Pat Nixon.

(135,425 posts)Annie was talking to a sister when she shot off her "you people" mouth. My mind--and I try to not see racism in EVERYTHING because it gets old and it is easy to be a little hypersensitive when there's not that particular intent meant--went straight to the "you people" phrase, laden with that particular tone and cadence, that white people use when talking about people who are a bit darker than they are.
When I saw the video clip I did think "Mmmm hmmm--she just couldn't help herself. You people came off, to me, as her perceived polite way of saying Y'all uppity so and so's!"

She's NOT a non-combatant. When she comes out like this and makes statements and allows herself to be interviewed and states things like "it's OUR turn" and this HORRID, arrogant, dismissive statement, she puts herself smack-dab in the HEART of this.
AND she makes snarky, smug responses to what various people on the other team have said. She stands there at the podium of that NRA meeting with her fancy-ass hand-painted silk designer frock, hands on either side of the lectern and smiles so damn condescendingly. She reeks of superiority complex. Humility ain't her thing, that's for damn sure! She reminded me of a few full-of-themselves moms I've observed, who were head of the PTA who stood there as imperious as an empress looking down their noses at the rest of the room from THEIR exalted spot on the dais or at the podium with these smug grins. You know they're absolutely glorying in their superior position to everyone else in the room, their Alpha Female status, with their first-among-equals status sweating out of their very pores, fully aware that they have more money than anybody else in the room and their husband is a bigger big-shot than anybody else in the room's husband, just knowing in their bone-marrow that everyone else around them is beneath them because of the status all their way-more-than'you'll-ever-have money confers upon them.
I could smell that a mile away, the first time I ever saw her. I've never seen ANYONE more smug.
She is NO innocent bystander or non-combatant. She jumped into this willingly, with her thousand-dollar t-shirt on.

Money does funny stuff to people. Some people see it as a windfall, a bit of luck, an opportunity to do some good and have a little fun. Others think it makes them better than the "little people." I think Ann of Prancing Horsies is one of the latter.

(32,139 posts)coming from someone who wants to be First Lady of our country. Elected or not, that position has some emotional meaning for Americans, and it just so happens that this particular type of condescension resonates very deeply with serious problems people have with the candidate himself. I think it's silly to expect people not to respond to something like this, particularly on a political DISCUSSION board.

(4,442 posts)I felt that their mother's choice to run should not be cause for her children to be attacked.
This is different. This is a wife of a presidential candidate and as such she is as much a political figure as her husband. She also is actively and openly campaigning.
Edited to add...my feelings above pertain to her campaigning and political discussions and not regarding her personal issues or life. I do not particularly care for personal attacks period.

(3,626 posts)all the references to Obama being foreign or having foreign ideas that rMoney's been using in his speeches lately. Also his spokesperson Tara Wall this morning on MSNBC's The Daily Rundown told Luke Tater-tot Russert several times, amidst the blah-de-blah talking points, that her boss was concentrating on the issues facing "real Americans." I guess "real Americans" aren't serving in Afghanistan, getting maimed or killed. Of course the little spudnick let her get away with it. I won't, nor will I let Anne. They're fair game if they're spokespeople, as is Michelle. They sure took her to task over that "proud to be American" comment last time around.
