Mother Jones: Senate Judiciary Committees Russia Probe Just Blew Up

The Senate Judiciary Committee’s Russia Probe Just Blew Up
Republicans and Democrats are now pursuing their own investigations

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2017/10/the-senate-judiciary-committees-russia-probe-just-blew-up/

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and ranking member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) have broken up over Russia.

The committee’s once bipartisan investigation into whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice or his campaign colluded with Russia has hit a partisan wall, with Republicans and Democrats saying they will now conduct their own probes. “We made the decision to go and carry it out ourselves,” Feinstein told Mother Jones on Tuesday. “They can go ahead and do whatever it is they wanted to do.” A Grassley spokesman also said the chairman had decided to proceed with a Republican-only investigation.

Judiciary’s Russia investigation is the latest congressional probe to stall out over GOP efforts to pursue matters Democrats see as gambits to distract or provide cover for the Trump administration. The partisan sparring within the committees looking into various aspects of the Russia scandal has caused concern among Democrats and other observers that Republicans will fail to complete rigorous probes but will still declare their investigations did not find significant collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Feinstein said Tuesday that their agreement broke down in recent weeks as Republicans insisted on focusing on inquiries into matters such as the sale of a uranium company to Russians while Clinton was secretary of state, and allegations that the Justice Department soft-pedaled its Clinton probe. “The interests are different. We want to do different things than they want to do,” Feinstein said. “Their staff appears to want to take this into a different venue, and that’s Hillary Clinton, and it’s Loretta Lynch. We think it’s collusion and obstruction of justice.”

The GOP doesn't want to continue the investigation because they don't like what they are finding. So, instead of bipartisian report, we will have a GOP report and a Dem report and each will say the other is incorrect. GAH

So glad there is Mueller's independent investigation

Now the Dems are unfettered by asshole Grassley who was never going to give this the attention it deserved. Of course they decided to investigate HRC. What did we expect of them? But we will definitely find something because we won't tell interviewees they are free to leave at any time, and we will put them under oath.

Unless I'm completely wrong and Dems don't have as extensive a purview to call individuals to testify? Article doesn't mention this.

Perhaps Dems should take a page from the GOP playbook and start leaking what has been revealed in closed-door interviews. I do not know how this would affect the Mueller investigation or even know it would.

But given the massive GOP coverup and diversion strategy, drastic measures need to be used to reveal the truth. There have been so many closed-door interviews that surely there is much info that is being withheld from the public.

Most people with a I.Q.above room temp knew this was going to happen. Grassley was put in his Chairmanship to protect Sesions and Trump from any possible Ethical or Legal challenges coming from any Senator or Governmental Investigative Agency.

One other Senator to watch out for is Orin Hatch. Zero credibility.

over and over throughout the year. We need an independent non partisan commission similar to the 9/11 Commission. It would be completely funded, be fully staffed, be relatively quick and couldn't be derailed by the GOP. Several Dem reps and Pelosi have already called for this publicly. Dems have introduced bills but the GOP Congress blocks them (my my, what a surprise). Mueller seems to satisfy and placate everyone. The GOP BS propaganda campaign can screw the validity of the investigation in public opinion via Fux Ruse and right wing hate radio.. I have been keeping notes on this for 8 months and this proves that I am on the right track. Unfortunately I am almost alone in this endeavor.

That makes me sick.

Maybe now, the Democrats can go full speed ahead with what they have already discovered and not be blocked by the Republicans. Between Grassley and Nunes with their ornery tricks to slow down this investigation, it appeared they were never going to come up with a conclusion. Just another example of collusion, which the Republicans are good at.

if they are accusing someone of something, it's because conservatives are doing it (stealing elections, using personal email accounts, private servers, class warfare, racism, sexism, you name it) or wish they could get away with doing it themselves.
