But in the real world its what leaders do.

Obama congratulates China's Xi on election as president

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Thursday offered his congratulations to new Chinese President Xi Jinping after he was formally elected to the post and told him that Washington looked forward to working with the leadership team in Beijing, the White House said.

As John Maynard Keynes purportedly said, " When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"

Chinese President Xi Jinping gets the Mao Zedong treatment to become most powerful leader since the founding father

China’s Communist Party has previously adopted a governing system of collective leadership after the 1976 death of Mao, whose personality cult crippled the economy and ruined millions of lives.

"In retrospect, it was an overwhelming assertion of authority to a degree unseen since Mao," Francois Godemont, director of the China-Asia program at the European Council on Foreign Relations, told The Washington Post.

China has always been ruled by dictators in the modern era. Xi is no different. The U.S. has always known who Xi is. Do you really think Obama didn't? Do you think Obama thought Xi was a secret believer in democracy?

And your Stalin analogy is not so good either. Stalin consolidated power in 1927. Having Trotsky, who was living in Mexico, killed 13 years later was a minor task of revenge. Long after Stalin consolidated power, had his purge trials, and killed tens of millions, Roosevelt had a very friendly relationship with Stalin.

Its what leaders of world powers do like it or not.

What part of President Xi Jinping is consolidating his power in a manner not seen since Mao's cult of personality don't you understand ?

The party's will — including arbitrary rules on morality — will continue to be imposed on the country. Xi has cracked down hard on human rights activists, NGOs and dissidents. These groups expect things to get even worse.

This regime "can do anything with impunity," says Sharon Hom, executive director of Human Rights in China. With the Communist Party's pronouncements, "there's not a lot of space for independent voices,"she says.

If you don't like the Trotsky analogy it's akin to Michael Corleone having all his rivals murdered as he consolidated his power among the competing crime families.
