Do Flake, Corker and McCain really want to show courage? Here's how

Senators Jeff Flake (R-Arizona), Bob Corker (R-Tennessee) and John McCain (R-Arizona) have a really great opportunity to really cause a sea change in the Senate for the remainder of this year and all of next.

Each Senator should hand in a letter stating that they have changed their party affiliation from Republican to Independent. Then, each let's the leadership know that they will be caucusing with the Democrats.

This will result in a 51 to 49 split in favor of the Democrats and everything changes. They can keep their current chairmanships, but all others change. Schumer now calls the shots on what legislation reaches the floor and who will chair all the investigations.

You 3 guys really want to show me that you want to save the country, we need more than words. Do this, together, and now you've shown me something.

in that vote were McCain, Flake and Corker. Rethugs are ALL the same. They always vote the same. Lie, Cheat and Steal is their motto in EVERY case. Without fail. No heroes there.

Because they are cowards.

They are stating obvious truths, of course, and the words are welcome. But they have also chosen not to run for re-election. Like most of today's Republicans, they lack the spine, the courage, to take action that goes against the GOP. It's better to quit, get the RW post at a think tank or university, maybe an ambassador's job in the next D administration. But do something that takes courage? Not these Republicans. Cowards one and all.

You don't just leave your party because you don't like the President. You and the others still have a common agenda. And your ideology hasn't changed to Democratic.

But you're right...that would get their attention.

will be running for President in 2020, and they want to do it as republicans. There is a good chance Trump will be out of the picture by then and either of them could beat Pence for the nomination. Pence is an incompetent corrupt moron religious nut case, and will at least be badly tainted by Mueller's investigation, if not taken out.

As of today, Flake voted with the banks and doesn't believe there's any basis for a 25th Amendment removal of Trump.

Wake me up when he and Corker vote against Trump policy.

Not having control makes us the opposition party with no power and that in itself gives a huge advantage in the midterms. If we don't get back the senate in the midterms, then they can switch their party affiliation even if for a short time, to get the most important pieces of legislation passed. But switching now could in the long run do more harm than good.

Their late switch would have an effect only in any short lame-duck session in the two months between the election and the swearing-in of new Senators.

And depending on what needs to be done that can make all the difference if all they have is a lame duck session
