US suspects Niger villager betrayed Army troops

LOLITA C. BALDOR, Associated Press•October 25, 2017

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military believes someone in a Niger village may have tipped off attackers to the presence of U.S. commandos and Nigerien forces in the area, setting in motion the ambush that killed four Americans, a senior defense official says.

The official said Tuesday that the Army Green Berets and about 30 Nigerien forces stopped in a village for an hour or two to get food and water after conducting an overnight reconnaissance mission. After they left, they were ambushed by about 50 heavily armed enemy fighters, who also killed four Nigerien fighters and wounded two Americans and several Nigerien troops.

Details about the attack and the events leading up to it have been murky, trickling out over the last three weeks. According to the official, the joint U.S. and Niger patrol was asked to help a second American commando team that had been hunting for a senior member of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb believed to be in the area.

The official wasn't authorized to discuss the incident publicly so spoke on condition of anonymity.

say Niger in their village? I am guessing they would be using their 2nd Amendment remedies, wouldn't they?
We have troops in just about every country on earth what if we had foreign troops in our country? Hell the
nut jobs in Texas were thinking our own Army was going to invade them a year ago.

we don't have any foreign troops over here. WTF do we need to be interfering in every country on earth?
Not saying they deserved to be shot or defending whoever killed them. Just why the hell are we there. People in
the USA get all fired up if there are Russian or Chinese troops even in South America let alone in our country.

armed troops from another country wondering around our country side people in this country would go bonkers. I am
70 years and never once seen an armed soldier from another country. According to the Bush clan we were invited into
Iraq as liberators. Can't you have civil conversation without calling names, we get enough of that from the fool in the White House?
I have always heard it takes one to know one.
