(79,302 posts)and his speech before the Senate today.
As well as Corker talking about what a lying POS Trump is.

(29,205 posts)the message is... if you are a republican in the Senate or the House, you will be primaried if you do not completely support Trump. And if you are in a "red" state, that means that a complete nut job will run against you in the Republican Primary and likely beat you.
Flake knew that his time in the Senate was over, not because he opposed any of Trump's policies... but because he didn't like the way Trump operates (lie lie lie and insult people0.
Trump's main opposition (in the GOP Senate) is stepping aside
Hopefully Flake and Corker can gum up the works enough to keep them from fucking everything up

(82,849 posts)Context: Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) has announced that he can't take it anymore, and he's not running for re-election in 2018. Also, he's terribly shocked - shocked! - that the political discourse in our country has become so coarse, as if he had just gotten up from a 40-year nap. He also had some less than complimentary things to say about the president.
Apparently, Chuck Todd has determined this constitutes a "win" for Trump, or something that his partisans will call a "win." Of course, Trump and his hallucinating hordes call everything a win, no matter what. But Todd can't bring himself to inject reality into the picture, so he must say that Flake's retirement is a "win" for Trump, even if it looks like a staggering loss.

(13,424 posts)If a Republican wins Flakes seat - a big if but certainly possible - that Republican will likely be more loyal to 45 than Flake.

(54,770 posts)Both Corker and Flake were -- as I understand it -- headed to a very tough primary.
I appreciate what they have said about Trump, and hopefully it will do some good. But, unfortunately, it can be viewed as positive for Trump and ignorant white wingers.

(115,733 posts)that GOP senators who oppose the way Trump behaves as president (although not necessarily his policies) are leaving and could be replaced with even worse people in 2018. In the long run it could be a big loss for them IF more GOPers find their spines and stop caving in for fear of primaries and tweeting.

(9,118 posts)The electorates of their states get off their backsides and vote against the Republican candidate in the general election.
I dearly hope that the rest of the electorate has a rise of conscience and consciousness in Tennessee, Arizona, Texas, and other states.
