Trump will lob his own grenade on Twitter, and the media will jump on it like they always do, and Flake's speech will be ignored and forgotten.

AZ will likely have TWO senate seats coming up. Just putting one of those in the “D” column would be a huge help.

But...Arizona.

In McCain's seat there hasn't been a Democrat elected since 1962. In Flake's seat, there hasn't been one elected since 1988.

Having the seat vacant does provide an opportunity, and Arizona willing, the anti-trump sentiment will be enough to get the vote out to get a Democrat in that seat, but the odds aren't in our favor, and Flake would have been a much better option than Hayworth, or forbid.. Arpaio.

The potential instrument of the destruction of American democracy.

And he's making it clear in this speech that he intends to do just that. Arizona will probably elect a right wing goon to replace him, but at least Flake can speak freely while his utterances are still newsworthy.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him campaign against the Republican candidate to replace him.

why do we always only hear this as they're walking out the door? It's amazing that they're profiles in courage as soon as they're leaving.

I mean, I'll take what I can get. Clawing back any tiny bit of insanity by his fingernails is something, and not nothing. It certainly takes some political will to stand up and say all of that at all, I just wish some of these principled GOPers had found their moral compass three to six months ago, y'know?

Tomorrow, Flake will have been an enemy from the beginning. Breitbart and Trump's Twitter feed will be full of recriminations and evidence that Flake has always been against the Trump administration (his actual real life voting record notwithstanding).
