(9,895 posts)4. There are really only 2 choices for the ultra-wealthy (mainly GOP supporters)
1) accept the fact that taxes are the price they pay for a secure and thriving society
Without taxes, and a progressive taxation system at that, the basic needs of society (a peaceful dispute resolution and contract enforcement system in the courts, a law enforcement arm in the police, a civil service system in the infrastructure, fire fighting capability and emergency healthcare services and a common defense in the military) cannot be maintained.
This of course says nothing about the other many functions of government in providing opportunities and education and benefits of citizenship on the population.
Keep trying to starve the beast...what happens next is as predictable as a sun rise in the East...
2) refuse to pay into the security of a civil society and watch as anarchy, superstition, and religious fervor tear things apart and roads, bridges, airports, rail lines and everything they bring crash down around you.
I know that many of the rich in this country have an out-sized opinion of themselves and just how much responsibility for their success is owed to the country they live in and the bills paid forward from the past to allow it in the first place. They romanticize the "self-made man" at every turn and ignore the truth at all costs.
If you are rich and in America, sure you probably worked hard and focused like a laser on short-term and mid-term goals. You poured your heart and soul into whatever it is that you gained remuneration and financial rewards for to be clear. BUT...you did NOTHING to establish the conditions that allow for such things in the first place and if you support tax cuts that explode the deficit while bemoaning the very same deficit as the reason infrastructure and education are too costly and health-care too unattainable for all, then you are doomed to a collapsing society, a breakdown of the very things that allow you to thrive in the first place and eventually, a total loss of everything including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Pay some now, or pay all later, but make no mistake, the bill will come due.

Your number two is rather chilling and dead on.

They've (giant financial global interests) been trying to steal that for decades. They stole a lot of it in 2008. Now they want to get the rest. And as soon as the bubble they're building in the stock market bursts, they'llget it, if they haven't gotten it through tax cuts first.
