by Kestrel
Politico is reporting that Ann Romney has stepped into the ring to battle against further disclosure of financial data and tax returns, quoting her as follows:
Ann Romney dismissed concerns about her husbands tax returns Thursday, contending that the two of them have given all you people need to know.
You people.
Weve given all you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and how we live our life, she added later.
I don't know about you, but where I come from, that's called high falutin' and condescending. I wonder if her nose was in the air when she said it? No video accompanies.

So I guess if that's the criteria, she's justified in calling us lowly folks "you people."

(95,337 posts)I know people who have MS and honestly, it's not a fun disease and it's tough to manage especially since many of them have to continue to work in order to make ends meet and cover medical bills. Not one of them see Ann Romeny as someone they can 'admire' in the battle against MS. They see her as what is absolutely wrong with our healthcare system.

(21,475 posts)Where have you been anyway? They tried to stop Michelle from addressing some school children in Florida just a week ago. They have been on here case constantly since even before Obama became president. Remember her famous gaff of "finally" she could be proud of her country. Her garden has been a point of scorn now for over a year.. It goes on and on and you think Ann Romney should be left alone???

Hell, yeah, go after her when she says something stupid. Which, you know, is pretty much every time she opens her mouth.

(62,325 posts)This is the kind of thinking that has to go. They have already gone after Michelle and her daughters. Where have you been?
Democrats should scorch the earth and take no prisoners when it comes to Republicans. So sick of this 'fear' of what 'they' might do or 'think' or 'say'. As if there is anything they would not or have not stooped to even when Dems choose the 'high road'.
No more high road, that is not where you meet Republicans. You meet and take them on where they reside, in the gutter if necessary. Let them decide to move out of the gutter if they don't like being invaded in their natural habitat.

(6,819 posts)theme, she's fair game. Especially is she's talking finances. The Obamas have been vilified since day one. She gets no protection. That's what you've chosen in the world of politics.

I've seen the horrific, racist, sexist things the right-wings says about Michelle Obama. Ann Romney has made herself a part of the debate. Unleash the hounds!

(4,982 posts)Ann Romney calls those demanding more of the Romneys' tax returns "you people".
Condescending much, Mrs. Romney?
Someone should inform Mrs. Romney if "us people" are going to pay their hard-earned tax dollars for The Romneys to live in OUR White House and pay their salaries, then "us people" are essentially their employers.
If The Romneys don't want to submit to a financial background check + drug test & other vetting that employers typically do before hiring, then The Romneys shouldn't get the JOB.
"Us people" would be fine w/ that.

(343 posts)Mitt and his wife don't want to give the Obama campaign the opportunity to distort info in unreleased tax returns. Mitt said as much in an interview. Well, if he released more years of returns, Mitt certainly has the opportunity to clear up any "distortions" put out there.
Unfortunately for Mitt, what he might define as "distortions" will be, most likely, the "truth" (facts)......and the Obama campaign will simply relate the facts of what's in the returns to the American people in a clear and simple manner.
If there was nothing in the returns for others ("you people" to "distort" then the Romney's wouldn't have a thing to worry about and the returns would be released ASAP.

(343 posts)and the rest of America is entitled to disagree with her. Ann doesn't come across as very bright. Those "you people" she's referring to are needed if her husband has a chance of being elected. Of course, Mitt won't release additional tax returns so I guess he feels he can win the election without the American people knowing more about who he "is". We should all just take their word that Mitt's the kind of man he declares himself to be. They know how the political game is played and if they can't be in control, they throw hissy fits, with smiles. It is understood that Mitt would demand the same from an opponent if the situation were reversed.
He's banking on difficult economic conditions being his best political 'friend" that will move him into the WH. He must feel his chances are so good that he doesn't need to disclose tax returns that reveal more about "who he is".
"You people"........they both need to get over themselves.

(343 posts)the Hampton Range Rover woman. I believe both are saying that the "common people" just don't have the intelligence , education, etc to understand who Mitt really is and what he stands for. Ann and Mitt appear to fear the Obama campaign's ability to "define" Mitt through simple presentations of the facts in a way that even the "common people" can understand. Hampton RR woman came right out and said that the "common people" just don't get Mitt and if they did they would understand how Obama is bad for them and Mitt would be good for them.
Distortion of facts isn't the problem for Mitt. His problem seems to be that the story of his working life is all too clear on it's own merit. No distortions needed to paint an accurate picture of how Mitt made his millions. It's also true that many voters won't care about how he made his money or about what's in his tax returns. But, Mitt's concerned that enough people might care about the picture the facts paint about the "real" Mitt , a picture that would indicate where his priorities lie and how he would lead this nation.
Distortions aren't the problem for Mitt..... the facts, as they are uncovered, are the problem. Facts that even the "common people" can clearly understand.
