How would you interpret this reaction to George Carlin's quote on assasinations

he has mixed those killed by governments by those killed by nut-cases. If we take anything from this it would be we need to lock-up the lunatics and reduce the size of government (maybe the first action would accomplish the second).

I interpreted it this way - aside from Lennon's assasin - every one of these revolutionaries was killed by someone with a political ax to grind - and the political ax was right-wing and/or religious in most of the cases.

I find it offensive anyone would insinuate the size of government is somehow responsible for these acts of violence. The implication you've made is reducing the size of government would appease small-government extemists and they wouldn't lash out at people who don't share their narrow political philosophy. By your line of reasoning, if Lincoln had only allowed slavery to stand and the Union to dissolve, that small-government confederate (1860s version of a tea partier) would have never blew his head off.

Well, for one, the only person on there who was killed by a government was Jesus (the Romans). But you're right - everyone but Lennon was by someone with a political ax to grind.
