The Republicans are in charge of everything right now. And it doesn't seem to be very healthy for our survival. They are downright dangerous.
There has to be some sort of compromise somewhere.
Would it be better if...?

(13,431 posts)Of course, that sends the right wingers in this country into full meltdown mode and they start burning things down.
If there needs to be some sort of divided government to keep both sides in check, then a Republican House along with a Democratic Senate and President would be the best option for America. Having Republicans control the Senate or the Presidency always inflicts great harm to this country.

(111,110 posts)The Senate can choose judges without them. I think my preference would be a Democratic House, a Republican Senate, and a Democratic President. Of course, it is easy to say Democrats should control all three branches, but the question is, would that be the best balance for governing? We and they have to compromise at some point in the process of governing.

(23,970 posts)if we have a Republican WH and a Democratic congress, the Republican president vetoes anything disadvantageous to their base and issues EOs to rule by fiat. (W/Cheney 2007-2009), rather than honoring the electorate.
if we have a Democratic WH and a Republican house, the house will hold endless investigations and run with impeachment votes at will, with or without sufficient justification (cf 1997-1999), while not working on behalf of the electorate.
if we have a Democratic WH and a Republican senate, the senate will tie up any legislation in procedure and refuse to confirm judicial nominees, thus not working for the electorate. (cf 2015-2017)
process of elimination: if we want "better government", Republicans cannot be trusted to hold the WH or either house of congress.
the Republican party is a racket, which operates in a perpetual campaign mode. they actually represent only a wealthy minority, which in turn pumps their campaigns as a profitable investment, thus returning them to elected office. they are incapable of truly governing this country in a responsible manner, and resort almost exclusively to deceitful shenanigans. compromise is no longer an active part of our body politic.
