Trump, a one-man wrecking crew

It’s true. Donald Trump is erratic, unpredictable, inconsistent, irresponsible, reckless and incompetent, to utter just a few of the appropriate adjectives that come to mind. But one thing he is not. He is not complicated.

There’s nothing complicated at all about Trump’s approach to governing. Don’t bother him with substance or facts. He’s only interested in one thing. What drives him is laser-like straightforward: If Obama was for it, Trump’s against it. And that’s not surprising. Remember, Trump spent five years leading the birther movement, refusing to accept Obama as a legitimate president. Now that, strangely enough, he occupies the Oval Office himself, Trump has turned into a one-man wrecking crew.

His sole mission is to systematically destroy, one by one, everything Obama accomplished, no matter how popular, successful or meritorious. Again, the test is simple: If Obama was for it, Trump’s against it. If Congress won’t do it, Trump will do it himself. That’s led to some reversals that are clearly not in the best interests of the United States, none more so than his last two.

But, again, Trump just doesn’t care. The same is true of the Paris Accords, TPP, NAFTA, the Keystone Pipeline, the Dakota Access Pipeline, clean power plant rules, contraception coverage, DACA, rules for prosecuting campus rape and anything else Obama achieved. Only one rule applies: If Obama was for it, Trump’s against it. It’s a hell of a way to run a railroad.
