Morning Joe Rips Trump for Puerto Rico Response: 'This is a National Disgrace'

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough ripped President Donald Trump’s response to the natural disaster in Puerto Rico on Monday, while touting a charity focused on relief efforts on the hurricane-ravaged island.

After playing a clip of Trump’s comments that he met with the “president of the Virgin Islands,” the Morning Joe panel had some fun pointing out that Trump himself is the president of the American territory (Trump actually met with the governor of the territory.)

Co-host Mika Brzezinski then touted Americares, a charity focused on relief efforts following Hurricanes Maria, Irma and Harvey. “That’s going to be needed because this is going to be a recovery that is going to be years in the making,” Scarborough said. “Especially if the president turns a blind eye to the people Puerto Rico, to those American citizens who continue to suffer down there every day.”

Scarborough continued that if the situation in Puerto Rico was happening on the U.S. mainland, the government “would have an operation going on there that would make D-Day look like a spring picnic.”

“But because it’s Americans on an island in Puerto Rico that Donald Trump is not focused on or interested in, he is actually is insulting them and threatening to take away support,” Scarborough continued. “This is a national disgrace and this is a national shame.”
