The artist who placed a urinating dog statute next to the Fearless Girl statue on Wall Street was killed by a train Thursday, New York Daily News reports.
Alexander Gardega, 48, was a Manhattan-based painter. He described himself in his Instagram bio as a professional scribbler, press junkie and politically incorrect to my very artistic core.
Shortly after placing his urinating dog statue, Gardega told the New York Post that Fearless Girl was corporate nonsense and a publicity stunt.
Fearless Girl was placed opposite the Charging Bull statue.

(3,022 posts)there is always a story in the story. Fearless Girl was/is a great symbol, but now we see her "parents" don't understand the message of their art work.

Most people saw a defiant girl facing down a vicious system. That's not a bad thing.

'Publicity stunt' --
I feel like I know this guy. I had a friend once with a similar bent. Damaging someone else's expression for personal elevation -- one can find it all over the human behavioral spectrum. Corporate publicity stunt or not, Fearless Girl meant something, still means something. It said something.

Professional courtesy.
Guess you have to be an artist to get that or not.

(3,022 posts)is facing the fucking bull, a symbol of Wall Street, the one that is screwing us all to hell. That doesn't work anywhere else. Bull had no right to be there, but it worked so it won a spot. Fearless Girl is equally deserving for the way she represents we the little people against Wall Street.

Or are you with the bought-and-paid for corporate entity that Fearless Girl is?
It's a corporate symbol used in advertising for God's sake. It's not representing any "little people".

(32,886 posts)Wall Street did not initially appreciate it, so it was moved.
I like the concept of little girl but the part about changing a previous artists work against his will is disturbing.

(24,254 posts)The statue, which rode on the coattails of insulting another artist to garner initial attention, is just a corporate symbol.

(3,022 posts)end to political incorrectness. Perhaps the dog can be placed next to the artist's tombstone?

(3,022 posts)executed? I just found his use of the peeing dog to be an assertion of male dominance and calling himself politically incorrect quite boorish. With that in mind I'm not saddened to hear of his demise. By the way, I don't think there is any correlation between bad art and getting hit by a train.

No love of the 1st Amendment here.
