Trying to get her into carrier to get her to the vet.
WTF is wrong with people? I am beside myself.

(4,924 posts)But she has an open wound.
She spends most of her time in our garage.
She showed up at election time last year.
We call her Hillary kitten.

(720 posts)Can only assume that shooter is a serial killer in training. I sort of get (but don't agree with) folks who hunt to feed their family, but the person who shoots a cat, or a dog, or someone's pony (saw that a day or two ago), is an asshole and should be jailed. I've met lots of people I dislike, but very few animals I dislike.

(34,137 posts)Since you say she is an outdoor kitty, could she have gotten in a fight and it could be a draining abcess? The other possibility is that it could be ***WARNING - GROSS*** where the larva of some fly or parasite has emerged.
No matter what happened she needs to be seen by a vet, but maybe it was not a gun happy neighbor or worse a budding psychopathic kid who might try again.
Best wishes to your Hillary kitty!
(I had a calico named Hillary - named for Hillary Clinton back when she and Bill first showed up in the national spotlight. The name also went along with a kitty I had who was named Tenzig after the Sherpa who accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary. Eventually we named another cat Edmund and my current kitty is name Tashi after Tenzig's son.)

(15,805 posts)People who torture animals are deranged and the shooter is still out there, waiting. He probably feels pretty emboldened having already shot her once, and if he gets a second opportunity, he'll go for the kill.

(4,924 posts)We tried. And then my son's friends tried. She was apparently someone's cat because when we brought her to the vet to be spayed, they discovered that she had already been spayed and her ear wasn't tipped.
She has an aggression issue with other cats and we have 4 cats in the house. I will keep her in the garage.
Doreen
(11,686 posts)they gave her some type of tattoo instead of tipping her ear. Whoever had her before probably meant to keep her inside but something happened and they got separated. They tip the ears for wild cats they re release so it is easy to tell just by looking at them without catching them. I hope everything is going to work out.

(2,396 posts)My elderly cat has a mast cell tumor in her spleen and we're not putting her through surgery, just managing her symptoms and keeping her comfortable.
Anyway these people made a whole bunch of music videos for calming cats in different situations, such as anxiety, stress, insomnia, aggression, illness, new home, fireworks, etc. Something about binaural beats and sound frequency incorporated into the soothing music that's geared especially for feline brains.
It really works for my cat. She visibly relaxes and goes to sleep!
I really encourage you to check it out and maybe it would help your precious kitty
ETA: I see now you're keeping her in the garage. There are similar CDs available on Amazon and you can get a cheap CD player for $20 there as well. I'm going to try going that route for when I don't want to monopolize my phone playing Cat Music

(46,166 posts)It's been stressful around here. We're two weeks into a kitchen reno. Things are going very well, but still. The house is a mess and things are topsy turvy. This piano music is very relaxing. Thx.

(46,166 posts)He also has pain issues but doesn't use any medication. I just sent it to him on a lark. But I'll relate to him what you said about how it helps you. I see it's also available in iTunes and might go ahead and get it. Funny how the OP led to this. I'm glad kitty will be okay and now I've learned something new.
Kittycow
(2,396 posts)I just play around trying them out to see which ones she likes best.
I also learn about so many different things here and I'm glad you enjoyed the music also!

(17,696 posts)Poor kitty. Good luck. And also, this: Zmodo cameras are something like 35 bucks, plug them in to a power source, connect to your wifi and you've got security cameras. I use them. Not affiliated in any way w them, I wish I was.
Hugs again and peace, aloha.

Thanks everyone.
I'm just so stressed out as it. My nerves are frazzled by everything going on.
Between the daily assault on my sensibilities by the asshole in the White House, all the disasters, and the fact that the legislator I work for is term limited and I have career anxiety and now somebody hurt my kitty.
I can't stand it.

(2,396 posts)I'm sorry to hear about the stressors raining down on you. I hope you and Kitty are feeling a bit better today. (I also just want to note the cat music is soothing to humans too. But I'm not trying to shove it down your throat, if it sounds like that.)

(31,404 posts)I know some kitties just aren't happy to be kept inside. Makes life rather dangerous for them with all the human assholes out there let alone the threat from nature and vehicles.
Danmel
(4,924 posts)And there is a recharge basin across the street that kitties hang out at. I'm wondering if someone shot into the basin. I don't know. I wish we could bring her and the other outdoor kitty in. I worry about them. They are spayed and vaccinated.

(31,404 posts)We had a kitty who was indoor/outdoor. I once was calling him in late in the afternoon and watched him ambling down a ravine at the end of our dead end street and he was being followed by a deer! We have coyotes, foxes, owls, Hawks, raccoons, too! Mouse lived to be 14 in spite of his fondness for going outside. And I'm convinced both Mouse and his brother, Simba, survived our house fire because they were outside that night. There was no time to look for hiding kitties when we had minutes to get out before the house became an inferno.

(2,001 posts)And you know I just have to take them all to vet and make sure there healthy and there fixed. Around here theres only shelters that kill after 30 days if you can even get a cat in. I just don't roll like that, I would feel terrible bringing in a healthy animal that if he doesn't get a home in four weeks, Is killed..So I have a big house and all these cats seem to be pretty happy, There good Karma..

(16,386 posts)You may want to contact the police, too. I know they'll probably tell you to keep your cat inside, but discharging a BB gun in your area may well be illegal. Also, they need to make a report in case it happens again to someone else's cat, dog, child. Only disturbed people do that sort of thing.

(4,924 posts)My husband thinks our back fence neighbors kid has a bb gun, he's heard popping noises. They are real jerks too.

(4,924 posts)Im sorry. I hope she is ok. Please report this to the appropriate authorities. I know a great dvm and I think you may be near my area. You can bring outdoor cats in. It is a slow process if they are not touchable. They need to be put in a room by themselves in a cage at first and slowly adjusted to being indoors. Ive had two cats who I rescued from outdoors who were tame and they both lived mostly indoors for the rest of their lives. Of course if they go out at all there will be some danger but they stayed in the garden mostly and they knew what not to do.

(13,620 posts)and his dad. They would do that shit. Some cat they were shooting at could be some little kids best friend. I know how heartbroken I was as a kid when my kitty never came home one day. I always wondered if it was because of some asshole like that.
Danmel
(4,924 posts)There is a deep wound and an infection. The vet thinks it is a bite. She didn't see a foreign object. We're starting antibiotics. Thanks for all of your support.

(46,166 posts)But she's in the right family with you. A garage cat can be a good thing especially this time of year with mice yearning to move into warm quarters.
You're so kind to take her into your home and hearts. All the best to you all.
