Atwater was the person responsible for depriving USA of probably the most capable person we could have for president -- Michael Dukakis. Atwater was the author and purveyor of the vicious, racist Willie Horton attack ad.

An African-American friend of mine was an active DEM party worker in DC in the 1980-2000 period. He told me that "we just couldn't beat Atwater -- he always came out on top, dirty -- but on top."
